It was during breakfast, that Atsushi asked, 'How did you get all this stuff? All this food that does not grow on the island, and clothing, and things in general?''Why does this interest you?' Akutagawa asked emotionlessly.
'Because I want to know. If I'll have to live here for a month, yer might as well tell me, yer know.' Atsushi's pirate manners were still present, although they were fading slightly, the more time he spent with this mysterious 'sir'.
'When I discovered this island, I immediately offered to take care of the plants here, until my death, in return for being able to live here alone in peace and quiet, with no rent or communication with the outside world. I requested that a mansion should be built here, and filled with all the furniture and books that I picked out. Also, I leave them [the workers of the ship] a suitcase every month, by the trees. Inside, I leave a note with all the things I'll need in order to survive for the next month. They swap that suitcase with an identical one filled with the things I requested in the previous month. They always include four newspapers, one from each week, so I'll know what's going on. This has been going on for over ten years, ever since I was 15.'
'Wow. No contact for 10 years? Don't you have family?'
'I don't anymore. Not since... nevermind..'
'Oh.'
The atmosphere was sad, thick with depressive blue hues and implications of dead family members. Atsushi wasted no time and took their plates away, washed them, and quickly hurried out of the room, ready to start his work. Before he left, he saw 'sir' with his head in his hands, still sitting at the table. He was shaking slightly, crying possibly.
_____________
It was during dinner that Atsushi couldn't keep it inside any longer. 'I'm sorry, sir, I did not mean to upset you this morning.'
'Huh?' Akutagawa was surprised, 'You did nothing wrong, it's fine.'
'Oh.'
_____________
Once again, after dinner Akutagawa was gone, and Atsushi decided to look in the library again. He opened the red doors slightly (just enough to peak through) and there he was, still at the same table, reading peacefully.
'Come inside .'
This not only surprised Atsushi, it also scared him. He jumped back.
'I know you are there. You came here yesterday too, but I decided to ignore you that time. Now, what do you want?'
Atsushi walked into the library, feeling as if the books stared at him, if that was even possible. He sat down across from 'sir', and politely stated, 'I don't know how to read.'
'And?'
'And you look like a good teacher.' Atsushi smiled.
This made Akutagawa stare at the younger male in front of him, as he could see that he was beautiful when he wore that smile.
'Alright' Akutagawa automatically agreed, without realising it.
Atsushi moved to sit next to Akutagawa and they started the 'lesson'.
___________
They spent hours going over letters, and how to spell them out, say them, and write them (as as it turns out, Atsushi also can't write, he is a pirate after all).
Atsushi fell asleep in the library, and Akutagawa had the perfect opportunity to stare at him, in peace, without being caught.
He soon felt the need to rest, but unlike the 'Jinko', he gathered the strength to walk to his room, and crash on his bed. He also fell asleep, within seconds of the fall.
