"So then, Eda landed on my boardwalk space, and she got so mad she almost flipped the table over!" Luz exclaimed with a wide grin.
Amity listened to Luz's story with a smile as they sat together on the bench at the Boiling Isles' public park. "Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun," she said.
"Yeah," Luz responded, rubbing the back of her neck. "But I don't think we should play any more human games for a while."
Amity didn't always know what the human was talking about, but she liked to listen anyway. Luz would tell stories whenever the two sat at the park together, and Amity enjoyed the sound of her voice.
"Anyway, what about you?" Luz asked, straightening up. "Are Edric and Emira still just as annoying as last week?"
Amity chuckled. "I guess you could say that," she answered. "Edric tripped down the stairs this morning, so that was fun to watch."
"Amity!" Luz laughed as she playfully elbowed the witch in the arm. At first, Amity hated when Luz did this, but now she had gotten used to it.
"What? You know I'm a jerk," Amity joked. "Don't act so surprised."
"Well, that can't be all that happened. Spill the tea, sis."
Amity shrugged. Luz was right, more had definitely happened, although Amity still didn't know what she meant by 'spill the tea'.
To be honest, Amity wasn't quite sure what had happened at school because she was so focused on Luz. The human was so eager to learn, and who wouldn't be fascinated by a human learning magic? Although, Amity was also distracted for a different reason.
Aside from school, she also had her personal life. However, most of that was her parents yelling and her siblings being idiots. She wished she could share more of her life with Luz, but most of the things she could remember were either uneventful or too personal.
"I guess my life's pretty boring," she lied. In reality, her life was really stressful, but she couldn't tell Luz that. She was too compassionate, and she had her own struggles, having to learn magic and find a way to get back home. Amity didn't want her to worry about her problems.
Luz's eyes widened. "Are you kidding?" she shouted with a smile. "Your life's amazing! I'd do anything to be a true witch." Her hand reached for her dark, round ear.
"My life's not all that great," Amity admitted. "Popularity isn't as amazing as you'd think it is. People only like me because of my family status and looks." She forced a smile. "Am I really that pretty?" she joked, trying to lighten the mood.
Luz looked at her with her large, hazel eyes. She mumbled, "Creo que eres hermosa."
There it was again. Luz always whispered things under her breath; things that Amity couldn't understand. "What was that?" she asked. She never got a true answer, but maybe this time she would.
Luz answered, "It.. It was nothing." She gently scratched the side of her neck. "Oh, look at that bird!" she shouted, pointing at the sky.
Amity didn't see anything. Luz was obviously trying to change the subject. "I should probably go now," she said as she stood up.
Luz stood with her. "You'll come back next week, right?" she asked, smiling as she fidgeted with her hands.
Amity replied, "Of course, I always do." She turned around. "She you next week," she said, waving behind her.
