Ezra had taken off running from the building we were in. If you aren't caught up with what had happened, Shela and I got caught by a Kitsune that I thought I had warned not to kill years ago. I had forgotten that even though I defeated something, often I would end up making more enemies, and I felt like half the time it had been my fault that I put the lives of people I loved in danger. But when my son had left the building, I thought it would have been best to go after him. I stepped out of the building and noticed that Ezra was sitting on the stairs staring off into the distance. I sighed as I knew how he had felt, what Jacob had said would have gotten into my head to. I approached Ezra and touched him on the shoulder.
"Son?" I said. Ezra snapped out of his thoughts as he looked up at me. "Are you okay?"
"Dad," Ezra said while I took a seat next to him. "Am I a monster?"
"What?" I questioned surprised. I hadn't expected Ezra to ask a question like that. "Ezra why would you say something like that?"
"I don't know," Ezra answered as he let out a long sigh. "I saw everything that happened Dad," he continued. "I remember seeing you and mom getting captured, I felt powerless." I listened as Ezra explained about his visions and how he had felt like he couldn't do anything.
"Ezra," I spoke, "Look at me," Ezra turned to look at me his eyes were nearly filled with tears. "No one is powerless."
"But everything that happened, I kept a secret from you, and it nearly cost you and mom your lives," Ezra answered. I sighed and placed an arm around Ezra's shoulder. Rather than saying anything I laughed briefly and shook my head, Ezra looked at me with a confused expression on his face. "What's so funny?"
"Well, for one, you aren't the only person to hide things in this family," I said. "And second, what you did in there was small compared to what your mother and I did," I continued. "When I watched you fight, you acted exactly like your mother when she faced evil."
"But you told me that mom was only a college student when you met her." Ezra said in surprise.
"I'm not talking about when I met her," I respond. "Way before I met your mother, she had fought against evil even before we ran into each other that one time,"
"What did she face?" Ezra asked as I noticed he was starting act like himself once again.
"She faced against demons, you and your mother are like each other than you know," I explained. "You were brave in there Ezra, you fought like a warrior."
"Thanks dad," Ezra said and gave me a hug. I smiled widely as I returned it, Ezra was probably one of the best things that had ever happened to me aside from my wife. I hadn't exactly expected to survive this long with my family let alone without my brother. It was nice that I was now getting to know myself and my family along with my brother. Ezra and I pulled apart and looked at one another.
"Come on, I think your mother is done burning the body," I said. "Let's get her then head back to the bunker." Ezra nodded his head as we got up at the same time Shela stepped out from the building.
"Well, from the way you two are smiling, I would say that things worked out?" Shela questioned. I pat Ezra on the back and turned back to Shela.
"Yup, come on, lets get back to the motel and head back home." I suggested. Shela nodded as the three of us walked away from the building, I wondered how Ezra may have gotten to the building in the first place but I hoped my car was still in the location we stopped at before Shela and I were taken hostage. After a couple minutes of walking, we arrived at the road, immediately I noticed my car was still where I had left it. A sigh of relief escaped from my lips as Shela, Ezra and I got into the car. I turned the car on and backed it out. I turned the car and began making the drive back to the motel so we could check out. Along the way I looked in my mirror and noticed that Ezra had fallen asleep in the impala's backseat.
"You did good Dean." Shela said after a long silence.
"You know I didn't do it alone," I answered. "All I did was give him some encouragement."
"You know who he reminds me of," Shela said. I stayed silent and focused on my driving, while I said nothing I knew Shela was about to say something more. "He's us Dean, his bravery, how he never gives up on family even though he knew things could go wrong," she continued. "Even his powers are growing, I wouldn't be surprised if the next thing that happened was him going on his own case."
"No forget it," I said immediately. I was down to bring Ezra along on a hunt, but no way was I going to let him go off on his own. I would worry too much, no matter what happens I never want to lose the family I had. "I know you think he may be ready for his own case, but you know we can't let him go off on his own."
"Dean, be reasonable," Shela said. "Eventually he will have to do it, I can feel it, but whatever comes next all we can do is support him."
"I guess your right," I said reluctantly, the rest of the drive was silent until we arrived at the motel. I parked the car in the parking lot and turned around to shake Ezra awake. "Son."
"huh?" Ezra said as he woke up and rubbed his eyes. "Mom? Dad? Where are we?"
"We're back at the motel, come on we have to get our luggage and head back to the bunker." Shela had said. Ezra nodded we climbed out and went to get our luggage. Once we made sure we got everything, I went to check out of the motel. After I finished checking out, we got back to the car where I placed our luggage in the trunk and got into the driver's seat. Shela and Ezra climbed in as well. However, before I left, I turned toward Ezra and smiled at him.
"Son, I just want to let you know that we're extremely proud of you," I said. "I hope that you never forget that."
