"Who was that?" Drake wondered.

"Don't know," Dusty said from his chair, back at their village.

Several long moments passed.

"He was a major," Azara said from her position leaning on a post.

"How do you know that?" Rex asked.

"From my days in the military," Azara responded. "He had a metallic star on his collar, which is the sign of a major."

Azara gazed into the fire.

"So... what do we do?" Rex queried.

"Simple... we kill him," Dusty said with a shrug.

"It's settled then?" Drake said as they all turned to look at Azara.

Azara nodded. "Yes."

Time Skip

Azara sliced her claws through a newborn before twisting and locking her jaws around another newborn's throat.

Next to her, Rex clawed at a newborn, ripping him apart.

"I see him," Dusty called in their minds from somewhere off Azara's left.

Both she and Rex started to make their way toward Dusty. They cut down multiple newborns that got in their way.

Azara could see the top of Dusty's furry gray head as he made his way through the ranks.

Drake joined them as they clawed and darted through the vampires.

"Dusty! Do not engage him on your own!" Azara snarled.

A moment of silence.

"Fine!"

The pack of wolves barreled through the fight, tearing and snapping at enemy vampires.

"Lost him," Dusty said in a frustrated tone.

"It's alright," Azara said.

"Yeah, we'll get him next time," Drake and Rex chorused, as they circled the last remaining vampires.

Time Skip

The pack spent the rest of the day cleaning up the vampires.

"Why can't they just dissolve when we kill them?" Rex complained.

"I can handle that," Azara said. She planted all four feet on the ground. Sparks shot across her midnight black coat, as the vampires closest to her started to glow and crumble into dust.

"That was totally wicked!" Rex said. He shook ash out of his brown and white coat.

Time Skip

After they had finished cleaning up, Rex, Dusty, and Drake sat in chairs in a semi-circle while Azara cooked venison.

"What was it like?" Rex asked.

Everyone looked at him.

"I mean... to grow up on an army base."

Everyone was silent as they looked at Azara.

"It was... hard," she admitted, looking into the fire.

"When I was five, my parents came down with yellow fever," Azara said with a frown. "They sent me away to an air force base to keep me safe... And a little while later I received a letter saying that my parents had died in their sleep."

"Azara... I-" Rex started.

"It's alright," Azara said with a nod. She gazed into the fire for several long moments. "I had a brother of sorts. His name was James. You all remind me of him."

Rex tilted his head, "How?"

"You," she said looking at Rex, "have his optimistic view on life."

"You, Drake," she said looking at him, "have his sarcastic way of looking at the world."

"And you, Dusty, have his stubbornness."

Rex, Azara, and Drake burst out laughing. After the laughter subsided, Azara smiled to herself.

"All that I know is I'm damn proud to call you my brothers."

Rex, Drake, and Dusty smiled.

"Now, who wants venison?"
