//Spring Day 19//The bright spring breeze brushed my cheeks as I took a quick break from watering my parsnips. I closed my eyes and took in a breath so big it felt like it could be my last. This was my favorite part about this season: the fresh burst of nature that feels like a wave of relief. This was something that I couldn't get when living in the city.
Hearing some commotion over by my plants, I jolt out of my tiny meditation session to see several crows pecking away at my crops.
"Hey! Get the hell away from my parsnips you little pests!", I yell as I shove my bronze hoe near them. While flailing my garden tool around, a white blur flashes past me and into the murder of crows, causing them to fly away in an instant.
"Good job Mochi", I say sweetly, as a furry face looks back at me, "Who's my little crow hunter?". I walk towards the cat to kneel down and scratch her under her chin; the ultimate spot.
Mochi hasn't always been by my side. When I first moved here it was just me, but a few days passed with me chopping down trees and moving rocks. One evening this tiny white cat wandered into my front yard, hopping around catching field mice. When she got closer to where I was standing and looked up at me with her pink nose, I knew I was done for.
Now she sleeps on my bed every night and hangs around the farm every day. What a time to be a cat.
I continue to work in my garden, (full of more than parsnips like cauliflower, green beans, and such) and I feel myself winding down. The sun was almost completely set, so I decided to finish up my garden work and head inside my little cottage. It's not much, but it's just enough for a single farmer and her cat.
Turning on the TV to watch Mochi and I's favorite show 'The Queen of Sauce', I start to get in my pajamas and relax for the night.
God, I'm so exhausted, I thought, I should at least check my calendar before I completely collapse.
I manage to shuffle over to the other side of my tiny bedroom and look at the calendar pinned up on my wood wall.
Hmm let's see... Oh that's right, Pam's birthday was yesterday, nothing really happened today, so that means tomorrow's birthday is some guy named Shane?
I turn away from the calendar to scan my house for any object that I might not use and is in good enough condition to give away. Having only lived here for 18 days doesn't grant too much time to know what people love and hate as gifts. No one seems to enjoy any wildflowers I pick for them. A little unfortunate if you ask me.
Pam was pretty easy, however. I was lucky enough to catch her last night at the local Stardrop Saloon and buy her a pint of beer. She loved it. We had all night to get to know each other and realize that we are definitely different people, yet it was so easy to talk to her. I learned her daughter, Penny, teaches the kids at the local library quite often, and that Pam used to drive the bus that takes off from Stardew Valley to some other towns that will probably take me a few seasons to even learn about...
Shane on the other hand, at least I think his name is Shane, is someone I've yet to converse with let alone get to know. When walking to Pierre's in the morning, I'll occasionally see him trudge along with a sort of scowl on his scruffy face as he goes into work at the Joja Mart. No wonder he's not having fun, he has to work at that corporate prison.
My wall clock strikes 12am and I turn my TV off.
Wow that late already? Time flies oddly fast around here.
I put out a fire in the furnace that I started earlier in the night and climb into bed, thinking about what I need to do tomorrow.
Water my crops, buy some more seeds from Pierre's... Oh! And give that Shane guy a birthday present. Maybe he likes pickles?
