Stitches and Chickens

/Spring Day 23/

A few days had passed since my last interaction with Shane, and I've been avoiding him ever since. Distracting myself with my crops and new coop that Robin graciously built me, I've had time to calm down and realize that some people just don't want friends.

Oh well.

I start my Tuesday morning the best that I can- with a cup of warm coffee. I sit on my windowsill and bask in the warm sunlight coming through the glass. Knowing I have a full day ahead of me, I feel that it's okay taking my time for the morning. Some Queen of Sauce, a little blueberry bagel, and I'm already in my overalls and light pink shirt. Walking out my wooden doorway, I stop in my tracks and gaze upon something horrifying.

Half of my crops are gone. Well, eaten, technically.

"For the love of Yoba..." I whine.

A few obnoxious crows flee the scene of the crime and I'm left to pick up and discard the remains of my cauliflowers. Having dealt with this too many times, I wonder if a scarecrow is in order. Shaking my head in annoyance I shift my gaze to the near-finished chicken coop. The outside showcases the rustic feel that I have worked so hard for my farm to exude. I tilt my head and examine the exterior. Maybe with a little gardening around the perimeter it will look like an charming, antique coop. I never like the minimalistic look, and I doubt the future chickens would care.

I begin to pick weeds in my vicinity to at least made it look slightly presentable to any outsider.

"MORNIN' MISS FARMER!"

If me shooing of the crows didn't scare them away, then that voice definitely would. I walk over to the red coop and squint my eyes. Seeing bright orange roaming in my vision, I relax knowing I'm not about to get burglarized.

"Oh my gosh", I sigh out, "Robin you gave me a heart attack!"

"Oh no, my apologies!", she wipes the trickles of sweat gathered on her forehead.

"And, you know Robin, it's not even 7 in the morning yet..."'

She glances up at me with bright green eyes.

"A morning not used is a whole day wasted!"

I couldn't help but laugh in response. Robin was a hard worker that deserved all the credit she worked for.  Before I asked her to help me in building the chicken coop, I stopped by her house a few days ago to talk to her husband Demetrius. While he is the man to go to for talking about all things science, Robin caught my eye. Her hair matches the energy she exudes- loud and bright. The more I conversed with Robin, the more I found myself in her. However, like today, her ability to be conscious before the light of day hits Stardew boggles my mind. Before leaving my life behind and moving to this farm, somedays I barely even made it out of bed before 10. Maybe that's why now I'm filled with so much more energy.

"Ya know", Robin cuts my thoughts, "this coop is almost finished. I'd get some chickens if I were you!"

I grin, thinking of the fun times to come with my future chickens.

"You're right. I'll do that when Marnie's opens."

Robin nods and continues hammering.

"In the meantime, let me help you with finishing this. We're so close!"

I walk over to help, and Robin hands me an extra hammer. I begin to robotically hammer any area in need of nails. Maybe it was the excitement of getting chickens or the early hour of the morning, but my incoordination got the best of me.
