Shock. My heart had stopped beating. I crouched down and gently touched the butterfly with my fingertip. It didn't move.

I jumped back, my mouth open and eyes wide. I started to run - then I remembered how unfit I was when my throat was sore and muscles were aching.
I burst through the front door of my house and called a greeting to my mother while I hurried up the stairs. Thoughts rushed through my head so fast that I didn't have time to register each one. An argument battling in my brain.
What the fuck happened?
It must have been a coincidence.
If it was me then . . .
It wasn't, though. It's impossible.
But if it was me . . . How did I do it?
No. It's supernatural and against the laws of physics and nature.
Is this power out of my control?
You don't have a superpower.
What could explain what happened, then?
Superpowers aren't real. You're not in a comic or TV show.
It happened when I . . .
You didn't cause that death.
. . . Winked.

I had to test this theory. I went downstairs, not running that time as I was exhausted from before. I really need to go to a gym.
There was bound to be a spider or something in the bathroom . . .
"Dan, how was your day?"
"Yeah," I said, not hearing or caring about what my mother said at that moment.
I could have a superpower!
After locking the door, I searched under the sink, in the bath, behind the toilet, in the cabinet - before I finally found what I was looking for.
On the wall to the side of the door was an average-sized spider.
This will do.
My heart raced as I faced the creature. If it didn't work . . . Well, that would not be surprising. Disappointing, though.
If it did work . . . I could have a superpower. It wasn't fathomable how excited and overwhelmed I was. I could be a superhero. Or villain.
Not a good power, though. I couldn't ever imagine using it on a person. It's too deadly . . . However I can't be caught. Who would ever believe that my eyes could kill? A power similar to Medusa.
The insect started to slowly crawl away, like it thought I wouldn't notice its absence. I would have to act quickly.
Maybe I don't want to know if I have this power.
It wouldn't do me any good.
I would have too much control. Control over whether someone lived or died.
If I did kill someone, I would never get over the guilt.

I looked back at the insect. Spiders made my skin crawl.
No one likes spiders . . . Fuck it! I want to know.
I closed one of my eyes. Shut both of them right after. I didn't want to open them again. I hadn't noticed but my breathing had increased - doubling its normal speed.
The anticipation was killing me. After a few minutes I persuaded myself to open my eyes.
The spider was curled up. Lifeless on the bathroom floor.
A rush of exhilaration overcame me.
It can't be a coincidence! I have the power to kill! Oh, God . .
I had to test it just one more time.
Ooh! A moth! I hate moths . . .

My mobile's ringtone woke me up. I must've fallen asleep. I groaned sleepily as I reached over to grab my phone from the table next to my bed. I checked the time: 18:34.
"Hi, Chris."
"Hey, dude. I saw you with Phil earlier today. What happened?" By the way he was talking I could tell that he was grinning.
I replied casually, "Yeah, he came over to help me with my maths."
"Get in there, Dan!"
"I wish."
"Come on . . ." He whined. "Ask him out."
"He's straight, man. I have no chance. He's Phil Lester."
"But, Dan! You hot dam! Turn on your gaydar: I don't think it's working."
I didn't believe what he was saying. "Wh-What?"
He sighed. "Please, Dan. He is as straight as a rainbow. And he must be into you. Why else would he have helped you?"
I giggled like a little girl. "You really think so?"
"Sure, man."
Phil Lester, the most amazing human in the world, likes me.
"Oh, my God. I just remembered."
"What?" I asked. Chris always had the gossip.
"A new 6th Former is joining our class."
"Oh?"
"Yeah. I've looked up his Facebook and Twitter-"
"Chris!"
"What? Yeah, so he was from some posh school in the area. From reading what he's been saying . . . He probably got kicked out."
"Oh . . . Anyway, Chris, something has happened-"
"He's not bad looking. If it doesn't work out with Phil then there's always hi-"
"Chris, listen! I can . . . Um . . . Kill by . . . This is going to sound really stupid. Um, yeah . . . I can kill by winking."
"What?"
"I killed a butterfly, a moth and a spider-"
"Fuck off!"
"No, I really did!"
"Stop joking around, Dan. You aren't playing some kids' game of Wink Murder."
"But, Chris-"
"I've got to go. Bye." The sad beep of the hang-up button echoed in the now silent room.
I was left feeling lonely, to be honest. If my closest friend didn't believe what was happening to me, then who would?
But in other news, Phil might have a thing for me.
I tried to push the 'Wink Murder' power to the back of my mind. Thinking of Phil made me smile.

Did you like?
Sorry I really overused italics and ... in that chapter but Dan was thinking a lot and that's how I show his thoughts.
Please forgive me

Look I wrote a poem:

Why
Are your wounds so shallow,
Healing by the second,
Already scarring.
Did the knife not go deep?
Is your skin thick?
Or is mine
Just delicate -
Like wings
Of a butterfly.
The knife too far
Blood flowing.
The scars to be forever unhealed;
Easily opened
By someone else.
Leaving me
Broken again.

Is it good?

Next chapter soon ^_^
Bye!!
