So I sort of ended up trailing after Sean all the way to the classroom like a lost puppy. Yeah, it doesn't sound that bad until I mention that I was quite literally drooling over him.
The annoying thing was that I realised but my body didn't seem to care.
Probably too busy watching Sean's muscles flex as he walks, my mind countered.
Hmm... Maybe.
Well it was too late to deny it now.
I was rudely brought back to consciousness as I tripped up and I ended with my face buried in someone's back. That someone just so happened to have a familiar, tasty scent.
" Woah, Dale looks like you are quite literally falling for me. I like a girl who's straight to the point. " Sean said with a wink. I could feel my cheeks heating up already.
I only realised we weren't alone when I heard a few loud snickers from the doorway of the Maths room. By now, my cheeks probably resembled ripe tomatoes that were being barbecued.
I glanced up and spotted quite a few cheerleaders giving me death stares with the message, " Back off ,Bitch" embedded in them. Another face also caught my attention, Marcus Thompson's to be precise. A.K.A the Bad Boy, leader of the ' School Badass'
group. His hazel eyes twinkled in amusement and the corners of his mouth twitched into a small smile that was cute enough to knock a few dozen girls dead.
I watched as he opened his mouth to speak, " Interesting catch there, Sean. One question though, is she mute? " he said nodding in my direction. My eyebrows furrowed in confusion until I realised that I had just been standing there, staring silently.
I cleared my throat to say something but he beat me to it.
" Nah man, it's just when she does speak, not the most pleasant things come out," he explained referring to my sudden outburst on Rebecca the slut and nudged my shoulder playfully.
That simple gesture made me shiver. Since when did we become this friendly?
Since you addressed QB by her actual name.
Marcus seemed to get the point as he let out a light chuckle.
" So what's your name, sweetheart?" He asked looking me in the eye. I returned my gaze to the floor and shuffled awkwardly before answering.
He watches me intently with a confident smirk plastered on his face.
" I'm, uh, Annabelle Dale." I stutter.
"Aw, she said her full name. How cute. Do you think she does it to make her feel bigger ? " he snorts.
All of a sudden the anger flares inside me and I struggle to control it. Then Sean decides to open his trap too. Except something much better comes out of it.
" Oh back off, would you Marc. Five foot four isn't even that small plus we need to get in. You might wanna try moving too. It helps if you don't want Miss Lynn to go ninja on our sorry asses" and with that he nudged me gently into the room.
He didn't look at me once after that and I scolded myself silently for thinking he would actually care about a low-life like me. Of course, he was just being polite.
I placed myself on a seat and the third row and made small talk with Agatha, one of the not-so-bad nerds.
She went on about some science fair thing that was coming up but I was hardly listening. I could hear Marcus at the door, " He likes her y'know. That's why he's being a little over protective. Don't worry though ladies, I'm still up on offer!"
All the while the girls giggled cutely and tried to make contact with him in not-so-subtle ways. He then made his way to the back row and began smirking and whispering to the girls who turned around to look at him.
I resisted the urge to roll my eyes and doodled in the margin of my book while waiting for the teacher to show up. Miss Lynn made her way to the classroom and handed out textbooks and put a slide up on the board showing us what to do.
The rest of the lesson went by rather quickly and consisted mostly of me jotting down some notes and I was so glad to hear the bell ringing signifying the lesson over.
I quite literally skipped to my lockers to meet Lily and Ben.
" Hey, how was your morning ?" I chirped falsely.
Lily and Ben exchanged knowing glances.
" Anna," she said and stretched the word. She was probably trying to get me to hear the warning tone in her voice.
" Oh screw this. What's bothering you ? Spit it out Anna. Now!" Ben interrupted.
Thankfully, the halls were almost empty. I pouted and looked at each of them in turn.
" What makes you think something's wrong ? I'm fine. Totally." I exclaimed.
What? It's not like I could tell them the truth: hey guys I'm totally over this morning and now I'm just upset about the fact that I don't stand a chance with the really cute and popular guy named Sean who I didn't really give a shit about until this morning. Glad that you understand! Bye.
Truth be told, I'm the worst liar ever. Especially when I'm on the edge of hysteria.
" Okay, you Miss Dale are coming with me to the girls bathroom. Ben, please meet us at the library in ten. It's Wednesday so we all have a free period anyways. You can print off your History essay while you're at it. Now go!" She ordered, waving her hands.
I watched as Ben scooted off without another word. It's best not to mess with Lily when she's serious because she means business.
" Anna, your coming with me." She stated while ushering me into the bathrooms across the corridor from us.
She gripped me by the shoulders and pushed me through before turning to face me.
" Spill. The. Beans." She pressed on.
I looked around for someone to save me but realised that the two girls who were in here previously had left once they caught sight of us.
" Well, it's just, I've not had the best morning 'Kay? Everyone's been whispering and staring and I don't know, it makes me uncomfortable. Y'know I don't like being the centre of attention." I mumbled. There. Though not exactly the whole truth at least I wasn't telling a lie.
I looked up from the the polished floor which I pretended to be so interested in and saw Lily leaning expertly on the wall with her jaw clenching and unclenching. She muttered a few incoherent words before wrapping me in a warm hug. She probably knew I didn't want to say anymore.
" You need to be more social, Annabelle. You'd be able to handle all this then. C'mon, look at me," she said softly, " Do you want to come to a party on Friday? It's at Luke's place. It'll be fun, promise" she said.
Luke was Lily's brother's best friend and her and Luke were pretty tight. He was a cool guy, I trusted him.
I couldn't be bothered trying to speak since my voice would be muffled anyway so I simply nodded my head in agreement. I was defeated.
" Pinky promise?" I whispered. She looked from me to my finger before going back to me again. She shook her head,"No. Just no. Now c'mon lets go catch up with Ben." I stuck out my bottom lip.
So much for a best friend, I thought before I was dragged out by Lily.
What was I letting myself in for? A party? How can there be so much a girl can do wrong?
I knew I should've told her the truth!
Boy was my life one big fail.......
