I sighed for the hundredth time today. I just needed this weekend to come around. My mind and body have been craving time off for the last few months. The last 6 to be exact.
Mentally, I'm drained and dead. I've been running on autopilot. My days go on and blend together. The only thing keeping me alive is knowing my two weeks at my current job ends this Friday.
I've been saving up from every paycheck any chance I can get to put into my savings. I'm taking myself to the other side of the world to start fresh and escape the hell hole here. I've applied for an assistant's position in Italy that starts in 3 weeks."Just 10 more minutes and I can leave." I glance at the clock on the other side of the room again. I swear the hands stopped 3 hours ago and are just tormenting me into staying here forever. I'm itching to finish packing up my life, have a glass of wine and eat some Chinese food.
"Becca! Good you're still here, can you come to the break room for a second?" My coworker Amy asks, excitement hinting in her voice. She's never one to keep a good poker face.
"Sure, let me grab my stuff and I'll meet you there." I tell her as I roll my chair back and stretch.
She smiles down at me and skips off towards the break room. Amy will definitely be missed while I'm in Italy, her attitude has always been a positive one and keeps me level headed while working.
I grab my jacket and throw it over my arm as I grab my phone and purse in the other and head towards the same room. I can hear the whispers down the hall.
"Shhh! Shhhh! She's coming!" A very loud whisper escapes the room.
I roll my eyes and smile. My coworkers are totally throwing me a party right now. I'm thankful it's on a Wednesday, Friday after work I plan on loading all of my boxes up and I'm taking myself to the airport for an 11pm flight out.
I take a deep breath, already feeling the emotions well up inside me, and I push the door open.
"GOOD LUCK!" Everyone screams at me as poppers go off. As I take in the people there I noticed my friends are there along side my coworkers.
"You guys! What are you doing here?" I run over to hug them, tears already down my face.
"Your boss reached out to us, she wanted to see you off properly!" My best friend Sara exclaimed as she pointed at my boss.
I just smile at Sara, she has helped me the absolute most recently. I've been crashing on her couch since six months ago when I moved out of my old apartment that I shared with my now ex-fiancé. She held me as I broke down. I had spent the last seven years with him, I thought he was the one I would spend my entire life with, only to find out he's been cheating on me for an entire year. I'm still picking up the pieces he broke inside me.
I turn to my boss, Heather, and run over to hug her.
"You'll do great out there! I'm so proud of the work you e accomplished!" She squeezes me and then slowly let's go.
She had been like a mother figure to me for the past four years that I've worked here. She's pushed me to my fullest extent and beyond. She's the one who even told me about this new position in the first place.
I turned around and took in the sight both my friends and coworkers laughing and mingling. These people have been all I've known for the past 4 years. With tears in my eyes I tell them, "Thank you everyone. I don't think I'd be here if it weren't for any of you."
"If you meet and cute guys just send them our way, ya?" My friend Michelle laughs.
We all laugh along with her, and I let myself enjoy this small treasure in time.

Sara and I climb up the three flights of stairs to her, our, apartment."I really can't believe you're moving to a new country." Sara can't help but let out as we drop our bags on the kitchen table.
"I mean, I'm so happy for you," she continues, "I know this is what you need. It's just going to be weird that you're not just a phone call away anymore." She crosses her arms and looks at all of the boxes I've packed already lining the walls of the living room.
"I know but this is the fresh start I need," I look at her, "I need to get away from here, you know that. I need to go somewhere with no memories of..." I trail off, I can't even say his name.
"Joe." She finishes for me.
I sigh and plop down on the couch, my makeshift bed for the time being. I won't miss being uncomfortable on this lumpy thing, that's for sure.
"Plus, once I'm settled I'm buying you a plane ticket out for your vacation!" I beam up at her, the thousands of scenarios we've made up playing in my head.
She smiles and rolls her eyes at me, walking towards the counter, "Do you even know what kind of assistant you'll be?"
She rummages through the drawers until she finds the wine key she was looking for, she then grabs a bottle down from the top cabinet and proceeds to open it and pour us both a glass. She walks over and hands me one, taking a seat on the chair next to me.
"The company is keeping it very hush hush until I start. I've been told it's for a band but no other details. I guess they don't want anything leaking out to the public about anyone or anything that goes on behind the scenes." I shrug as I take a sip, the acidic taste hitting my tongue causing me to scrunch my face a bit. A dark red wine, Sara's favorite. I prefer something a little lighter and sweeter. I swirl the liquid around.
"It would be pretty funny if you worked with that one band you've been blasting lately. What were they called again?" She takes a swig from her glass, enjoying the dryness of the wine.
"Måneskin, and I don't think I'd ever be that lucky. They're too high profile now anyway since they won Eurovision. I'm sure they wouldn't want a new hire like me, especially only being 24, to take up that responsibility." I roll my eyes and place my glass down.
Sara giggles, "would you tell the lead singer you're in love with him?"
"Yes, I'll confess on the first day after the coffee run, 'Here you go Damiano, oh by the way can I have your babies?' That should go over very nicely." I stand up and head over to my pile of junk to be packed.
"I'm going to order now, you want the usual?" Sara calls over her shoulder as she looks for the Chinese menu.
"Please!" I call back as I settle myself for a night of packing and organizing.
I didn't have much left to go. A lot of my things will either be donated to charity or my friends. I'm restarting my closet once I get there, so I'm just bringing the essentials. Some basics that I can dress up or dress down depending on the day. I'm bringing all of my books and art supplies. I'm no artist by any means, I just like to use it as a way to escape and go into my own world. Any electronics that I have can be packed into one bag thankfully. I left a lot in my old space, too much in a rush to flee, too hurt to care about inanimate objects.
I sighed as I taped up another box. I really am starting over. Going somewhere new.
I look out the window and start daydreaming of my new Italian life and letting what Sara said sink in. Imagine me, Rebecca, a girl from a small town, even in the same room as Damiano David. I think I'd faint right then and there.
