Silvery rays poured right into my eyes telling me that it's time to wake up. I heard the clinking sound of two glasses from downstairs.
"Uh! It's already Monday! Seriously how could the time pass so fast." I thought while skipping few steps of the staircase heading to the kitchen where my mom was pouring the milk into two glasses. She had already made the waffles which happened to be my favourites.
"Good Morning mom" I said grabbing a waffle.
"Look how my waffle fan turns into a high school senior today" she said crinkling her eyes. " Hey you have got to dress up for the school. It's the very first day" she added.
"Don't mention it mom!" I replied while heading to take a shower.
I put on a white cami and a maroon leather jacket. And got myself into a pair of black jeans and put my white sneakers on. I grabbed my dark blue backpack which was packed with my new school books. I had this weird obsession in dark blue colour since I was twelve. And here we go!
As I reached down, mom was nowhere to be seen. May be she's giving me a ride to school I thought. And I opened the door. There was a brandnew dark blue Honda Accord parked in the drive way. And there stood my mom next to it.
"Surprise!" She giggled. "You love it?"
"Of course mom!" I ran down the stairs which lead to the driveway and wrapped my arms around her.
"Your dad and I noticed that kids in your age have their own cars. So.. we decided that it's time for you too. Stephie got the silver colour one and here goes the blue colour one" she continued. And I was speechless. I don't know how to express my hurricane of thoughts. It's the best thing happened and it was so damn cool.
And my very first day of my senior year just begun. To be honest it was a five minutes drive to reach the entrance. In between the two tall brick walls, there stood a metallic arch which read the letters of 'Ravenglass wood high school'.
The parking lot was crowded with the most popular cars of high schoolers. And everyone seemed excited and lost in their own worlds. I bet the reason was their friends. Of course who would welcome a life full of studies, right?
I managed to find the homeroom without any trouble. As I collected the class schedule first hand, I could figure out where my other classes will be. I placed my chemistry books in my locker and shut it.
"Hi! I have never seen you. Are you new to this place?" The owner of the locker next to mine asked. She had shoulder length hair and it looked like she had chopped it recently. She looked sort of timid and innocent but I can't guarantee whether she's an introvert or not.
"Yeah. I moved recently. And nice to meet you. I'm Stacey Harmon" I said with a smile.
"Oh! I'm Emma Anderson" I noticed that her face was going red.
"Having any troubles adjusting here?" A familiar voice asked tapping on my shoulder and I recognised that it was Stefan.
"Hehe no probs yet" I giggled and headed to our homeroom.
Mr. Jensen who was our homeroom teacher had this expression like don't you dare to mess with me and his sharp eyes were confirming his expression. It revealed that every action had consequences and I thought that it's better to avoid any mistake to survive. He started the lesson with mechanics. And he lectured us how the senior year is important and also about GPA. My only worry of course. My sister and I had always wanted to get into an Ivy League school. Both our mom and dad were graduated from Havard and it became like our dream uni.
Ravenglass wood's cafeteria was quite big compared to the other schools which I have attended to. And thanks to Stefan, my first day wasn't miserable.
"How does it feels to be a Senior, young lady?" mom teased me dropping a pile of files on the dining table. I laughed.
Ever since I can remember, my mom and dad never missed CNN news. It became a habit of me too. I sat on the sofa with mom and watched. Most of the news was same old stories which we hear everywhere and there was this news which made my mom's face distressed. And I paid attention.
It was about a suicide case of a heir of a leading company. But they were claiming that it was a homicide. And what confused me most was that it was a five year old case and why they are bringing it up after all this time. And it has happened in San Francisco and I started getting it.
"Mom.. are you working on this case?" I asked but she didn't respond but I wasn't that immature to understand that she was working on it.
