Heads up, if you prefer an X reader story, I posted this exact same book in that version on my page. Just letting you know:)

I run through the night
In three directions at the same time
A view of the town
From three angles at the same time
At the same time
I will protect you
Protect you

-Jae-

The smirk on my clever comment about the 100 Kruge was wiped as I shut the door behind me. I stumbled over to the bed, grimacing in pain. I sat down and rubbed my bad leg, hoping to somehow ease the pain.

"Jae!" I flinched as I heard the voice but then calmed down when I noticed Inej.

"You know I have a door for a reason." I told her as she stepped away from the window.

"What happened?" She came over and started assessing my situation. "We need to get you cleaned up." She started taking off my jacket, leaving me in my black tank top, with easy access to the wound on my arm.

"The Dime Lions attacked." I explained to her as I laid back, closing my eyes, and felt her helping my cuts.

"You're going to need stitches; this cut is too deep." She told me. I sighed.

"Do whatever you think is necessary." I told her. She walked over to the cabinet and pulled out various tools. I saw her taken a special thread and put it in the needle. "Why did they do that? Did you guys cross their territory? I'm putting the needle in, so be ready." Inej added as she pushed the needle into my arm. I grunted as it struck my skin, but then bit down the pain.

"They were there to kidnap me and take me back to Rollins." I gritted. Inej paused her work and the wound stung. "What?" I asked her, opening my eyes.

"They tried to kidnap you? They've never tried to kidnap any of the Crows before." Inej muttered, more to herself than me. "I bet Kaz is losing it right now. I'm sure he's planning Rollins' murder."

"The only thing Kaz is 'losing it' over is not winning the bet and having to pay 100 Kruge to Jesper because he handed me his cane." I scoffed. Kaz wasn't the one to genuinely care about someone else. Unless he had a reason to.

"He gave you his cane?" She repeated.

"Yeah, when mine snapped in half." I answered.

"How did you even get out of there?" She asked.

"I used my new weapon." I managed to smile, even while in pain. "I have it in here-" I reached in my jacket's pocket but was interrupted.

The door slammed open and Kaz walked through, running a hand through his hair. He hadn't cleaned his wounds or anything.

"Kaz what are you- AH!" I sat up a little straighter as Inej poked through the needle again but this time without warning.

"Sorry." Inej apologized. She pushed the needle through again. I bit down on my lip, this time forcing myself to not make any sound. I had gotten stitches before at the Menagerie, but the pain hurt just as much. Kaz just looked down at Inej performing the procedure on my arm. His eyebrows were furrowed, an expression flashing across his face. Remorse? Guilt? Almost as if he felt the pain that I was going through.

"Watch the Club." He said, turning away and shutting the door behind him. Inej and I both looked at each other, realizing what Kaz meant.

He was going away from the Crow Club to do something.

"Inej, I need to go after him, he's going to do something stupid." I said, trying to sit up.

"Just let me finish this and then you can go!" She insisted, pushing the needle through my skin again.
