Louis went through the ceremony on autopilot, unable to keep his mind off what he had said to Harry. He had said it so quietly, he could only hope Harry hadn't heard him.
Harry watched the crown being placed onto Louis' head. He watched as Louis stood, and his father announced him King of Carilinia.
Louis's King, he realized. Louis's King now. They were supposed to grow up and become rulers together. Louis was always going to be coronated a while before Harry, as he was just over two years older, but this felt different. A reminder of how Louis was going to keep growing up without him.
He watched as Louis turned around, looking to where Harry sat with his parents. Louis' eyes were also filled with tears.
Screw formalities. Harry stood up, running to Louis and pulling him into a tight hug. Louis wrapped his arms around him, gripping him like a lifeline as they cried into each other.
Soft murmurs broke out through the room.
"Uh," Jay said, her smile faltering. "Sorry, would everyone mind giving us a moment please?"
The rows of guests that had been invited to the coronation stood, speaking in hushed whispers as they filed from the room.
Jay pulled the two boys into her arms. "Hey," she whispered. "It's gonna be okay. We're gonna be okay."
Harry vaguely registered his mom joining the hug as well.
"I don't want you to die," Louis cried. "You can't die. You just can't. What am I supposed to do without you?" He paused, unable to speak through his tears. "What I am supposed to do without you?" he whispered again. "It was supposed to be forever, remember? What happened to forever?"
"Forever isn't going anywhere," Harry choked out. He took Louis' hand pressing it to his heart. "Forever is still here," he said. "Forever will always be here."
"No," Louis said. "No, it's not the same. I want you here and real forever."
"It's still forever. Just a different forever."
"I don't want a different forever. I just-" he choked back another sob. "I just want you."
