"Where everything starts, it's where it shall end."
To meet Death, they had to be extremely careful and open their eyes widely to any sign of his whereabouts. Chicago's huge, and Gabriel didn't give any especific locations at all.
Somehow, trying to find Waldo trained Delilah enough to be a particularly good finder. Two hours after landing in Chicago, and she recognized a little pizza parlour looking particularly eerie. She confirmed her thoughts when she saw a shiny white Cadillac, parked a couple of steps away from the pizza parlour. She signaled the place to her brothers, who nodded approvingly and followed her lead. The front door was closed, so Delilah walked towards the service door, which was wide open.
"I was expecting you three," a calm, grave voice said once they entered to the dinning area. A man in a black suit was comfortably sitting at one of the tables placed in the center of the place. He was looking outside, "I'm more curious about meeting the girl, tho. Don't take it personal, boys," he said. Delilah breathed in deeply and walked towards the man. The boys stood still in their place, wondering what to do. Finally, Dean decided to look at the kitchen and Sam followed just to make sure he wouldn't eat everything.
Walking slowly towards the man, Delilah noticed a briefcase, and saw, on his hand, the ring; it was the last one, just there. But she wouldn't attack, not Death. Instead, she was planning to do some convincement.
"Nice to meet you, Delilah Wichester," Death said, signaling Delilah the seat in front of him, "you truly look like a regular, vulnerable kid. To my eyes only, though. You've seen some creatures, but, angels are as curious about you as I am, some demons fear you and Lucifer," Delilah interrupted, as always, throwing a questioning glance at the plate with pizza on the table.
"I know how Lucifer sees me," she said, clear, and loud enough to disguise her fear.
"Do you?" Death asked smiling, "This is such a great pizza, you should have a piece."
"No thank you, Sir, I mean," How would you call Death with respect?
"Although Sir flatters me, you can call me Death," he responded and smiled widely, "Girl, stop shaking, I can't kill you, nor will," he said lowering his voice in rage.
"May I ask why?" Delilah said, truly curious.
"I'm bound, right now, to Lucifer's will. Don't ask anything about that ridiculous, complicated, stupid spell, please, enjoy a pizza," Death answered a little rushed. Delilah nodded and grabbed the pizza he offered and took a bite, "I know why you're here. This," he said, rising his hand to his face level, the ring shining preciously on his hand, "is what you're looking for," taking the ring out of the finger and offered it to Delilah, "Take it."
"Why are you so positive about giving your ring? It keeps your power while you are in a vessel!" Delilah exclaimed nervous.
"I expected a thank you. You're right I should do some explaining. You are more powerful than any human being right now, more than your brothers, more than the friends you left behind. You are too valuable right now, because, you, and only you, will be able to lock Lucifer again, which by the way will free me from the bound, thank you very much."
"I'm sorry, but if you're making a refference to this "Heir of Hell's throne" thing, I'm sorry to tell, I won't take it," Delilah interrupted once again. Death sighed and continued his monologue, ignoring the pause.
"You will be feared, venerated. You will receive love and hate. Take this ring and lock him. Take this ring, I will retrieve it later on. Take this ring," he paused dramatically to bite a slice of the pizza, "and face your destiny with courage. No matter what decision you make, it will always lead you to the same end." Delilah took the ring and placed it on her pocket.
"Thank you, Death. You will soon have your beloved freedom back," said that, Dean and Sam walked in arguing about Dean eating something Sam told him not to. Death smiled encouragely to Delilah and she smiled back, walking away.
"Delilah!" Death said before she left the place with the boys, "where everything started, is where everything shall end," he said not facing the siblings, still eating the pizza.
"What the hell he meant by that?" Dean asked angrily once they were outside. Sam shrugged and Delilah didn't answer, but she was giving her best trying to guess the answer. On the ride towards nowhere specific, Gabriel appeared on the backseat, next to the almost asleep Delilah.
"Cheer up kiddos! You have the last ring!"
"Son of a bitch," Dean muttered, losing control of the wheel for a couple of seconds.
"Gabriel," Sam started smoothly and Gabriel looked at him, with an exagerated smile, grabbing Delilah's hand; she smiled tiredly, and closed her eyes again, "where everything started, everyting shall end. What does that mean?"
"Oh," Gabriel said smirking, "the final strike's location was changed. Now think about it. Think. The three of you are important but one is more than the others; and that person..."
He couldn't be that evil, Delilah thought. Striking her brain like a lightning, a huge flash of images went like a movie on mute, on Delilah's head: smiles, tears, jokes, every single moment she treasured the most from that place, a place normal people would hate but not her, no, she loved it. He couldn't be such a bastard. Playing the saxophone, the spelling bee, decorating the rooms with her friends, eating with their friends, falling in love with at least three of those friends, keeping one of those secret lovers as bet friends, crying for her failures and success. And them that September day, a normal day, her friend runs towards her, brings her to the math room, Sam and Dean appear, Sam and Dean introduce themselves; she is not Xiomara, she is Delilah Winchester. Monsters are real, hunters are real.
Son of a bitch. He hit on the most vulnerable spot.
Delilah opened her eyes widely, "My school!" she cried out loud just after the brothers and the archangel were getting used to the silence, "It'll be there!" tears ran freely down her cheeks as Gabriel closed his hand on hers tighter, "It's there," she repeated whispering. Gabriel nodded approvingly.
"Good job kiddo. You got it right," he said, placing a kiss on her forehead, "now we need a plan."
"Yes, we do," Dean said quietly, surprised and not happy knowing he was going to take a plane soon.
"And I have it all on my head," Delilah said, between tears, smirking.
