I was sitting next to Alex watching something called SpongeBob when Penolpe walked in the door

"Mom your home early" Alex said

"its seven alex"penolpe said pointing to the clock

"did you two watch tv all day" Penolpe asked walking down the hall

"maybe" Alex said before turning to me

"So tell me about yourself" Alex said 

"we've been hanging out all day and i know nothing about you" he said

A small yawn left my mouth and before i could say anything my dad walked in the door

"There you are dahlia your mom wants to talk too you" my dad said holding up a phone

I immediately stood up and walked over to my dad

i took the phone from his hand and walked too the back of the apartment

"mama"i said into the phone

"Oh nena como estas" my mother said into the phone

"estoy bien mamá te extraño" I said my eyes tearing up

"Oh mi dulce niña, estarás bien, todo estará bien" my mother said sadly

"lo sé pero te extraño y tengo miedo" I said

"No sé si podremos volver a hablar" my mother started her voice cracking and she paused for a second

"Pero solo quiero que ustedes dos sepan que su madre los ama" she said shakily as tears started falling down my face and the line went out

My hand went too cover my mouth as a sob escaped my lips

"Dahlia you okay" Alex asked walking into the hallway

"no"i said shakily my voice breaking

"oh niña lets get you something to eat" Lida said rubbing my back

 When i woke up for my first day of school i quickly showered and got dressed before running downstairs

"dad" i called looking around the room but he wasn't there

i grabbed the backpack he gave me and walked over too people's apartment as she was walking out with the kids

"hey kido you want a ride to school" Penolpe asked

"yeah"i said and they look surprised to see me speak

"great i can give you a tour of the school" Alex said smiling 

"great" i whispered following them to there car

We all walked into the Alverez apartment to see Lydia and my dad salsa dancing

"i get it were Cuban" Elena shouted

"Azúcar" Lydia shouted  dancing with my dad

"Can you believe this living stereotype" Elena said to me and Alex

"i don't know that stereotype looks pretty fun" Alex whispered to me

Me and Alex had spent the whole day together and we had all the same classes

" I know. It's... Uh-oh. Oh, my God, what's happening?" penolpe said as she started to move her hips before taking Alex's Elena's hands

"Oh, it's happening. Oh, oh, oh, oh! I think it's my hot Cuban blood! Oh, I must dance! Whoo!" Penolpe cheered and she and Elena started dancing

Alex grabbed my hands and pulled me over to the group and before i knew it we were all dancing

"Oh i'm dizzy, i really needed that and there goes the shoulder" penolpe said said sitting down and Lydia stopped the music

And then Elena went on again about the composting problem for lunch today it was hilarious but i felt bad

"sorry Elena" i said sharply

"you lit a car on fire badass penolpe" i said

"it was kind of an accident" she said

The conversation went on two Scott the bobo's sexism

"that's not that bad when i lived in Venezuela boys at school were total bobo's they were all over every girl and not in a way you'd like Elena "I said trying to avoid a memory

"Look i think my dad broke so i'm gonna take him home "i said waving at Alex

"bye thanks for the ride see you in class "i said to the family before dragging my dad back to our apartment

'bye" Elena said out the door
