While school starting again totally sucks, one good thing does come from it. Last year, Tessa and I started one of my favorite traditions. Every Wednesday night we'd sneak into the school's pool. It all started because she wanted extra practice for swim team. She dragged me with her because I needed to leave the house, and the school is really creepy at night. I wouldn't want to be alone here either. We've heard some weird stuff, but for the most part it's been pretty chill. She swims and I read the most cringeworthy romance books I can find. Now that the school year has started, we get to have our pool nights again.

We usually drive, but Tessa suggested walking since the weather is still nice. I think she forgot that the school is like a mile away from my house, but I'll cope.

After about 40 minutes of walking, we finally approach the school.

"Is that a car?" Tessa asks.

I pick up the pace so we can see a little better. And sure enough, there's a car parked right in front of the pool gate.

"Wait a minute—" I notice a familiar ginger head "Is that Lydia?"

We jog over to her and Tessa shouts "Lydia!"

Her head snaps back, and she seems terrified as she looks at us. "What are you guys doing here?"

"Um, swimming?" I comment hesitantly. She's starting to freak me out. "What about you?"

"I have no idea," Okay that's not what I needed to hear. I look over at Tessa and she seems equally as confused.

We follow Lydia into the swimming pool area. Her legs shake as she leads us further into the room. Why are we even here? I'm getting a really bad feeling.

"Oh my god," She tries to quiet her panic by covering her mouth. I look over her shoulder and see something in the water.

"Is that a body?" Tessa asks.

"Mmhm," Lydia responds choking back tears.

I think I'm going to puke. If it's a dead body, I don't know what I'm going to do. There are a lot of things I'm ready for, but witnessing actual death is not one of them.

I hear Lydia begging for the body to not be dead, and I hope that her begging actually does something because the mass in the water doesn't look full of life, to say the least.

Lydia reaches in the water and sighs of relief. I come up next to her and understand why she's so calm. It's just a dummy.

I look over at Lydia and see her eyes suddenly widen. I thought everything was fine, but when I look down at her hands, covered in blood, I realize I couldn't be more wrong.

I don't want to look up. I know what's going to be up there. The look on Lydia's face says it all. I haven't become any more equipped to face death in the last thirty seconds, but there's really no going back at this point.

Lydia screams, confirming what I already knew. I slowly lift my head, bracing for the inevitable. As the body comes into sight, chills run down my spine. It's dead. Like, really freaking bloody and gory and scary, dead. Seeing a body that was built to be full of life, utterly lifeless is the most haunting thing I've ever seen.

Tessa grabs my hand and pull me away from the body.

"Hey, it's going to be okay," She whispers, petting my hair.

"This is too much," I stutter so softly that I'm not even sure she hears me.

"Are you okay?" Lydia looks over at me and Tessa.

No. "Yes"

"Okay, I'm going to call the cops," She spells out slowly and we nod "Then I'll call Stiles. And you guys are going to stay here, okay?"
