Even before her alarm could start ringing Anjali switched it off and sat up on her hostel bed excited for the new day ahead because after a long struggle, she was finally in the place she wanted to be.
Chuckling and humming to herself, Anjali skipped to the bathroom, quickly got ready and came out wearing a green kurti with dark blue leggings. She pulled her hair up into a ponytail and quickly prayed to the statue she had placed on the shelf. She really didn’t believe in God but she believed in prayers and the universe and hence this practice.
She called her mother’s number as she was packing her things for the day.
Her mom picked up and she said, “ hi ma, good morning.”
Her mother replied, “good morning kanne, looks like someone’s super excited?”
Biting her tongue to contain her excitement, Anjali replied, “yes ma, first day in my dream college, of course I’m excited”
Her mother chuckled and said, “okay da, I was just pulling your leg, have a great first day kanne, call me when you’re done, I want to know all about your first day”
“Sure ma I’ll call you in the evening ,I have to go now okay,byeee”
“
Bye kanne. love you”
“
Love you too ma” and she disconnected the call.
Walking down the corridor she heard a familiar voice bickering and saw that it was her best friend Anu fighting over the phone with her sister Ashwini.
“Stop annoying me Ashwini!Today’s my first day of college so please let me enjoy it! I’ll call you later, Bye.”
She ended the call, huffed and looked towards Anjali with an exasperated look on her face.
Anjali looked at her friend, smiled and said “Even now your bickering continues.”
“Ohh that will never end” she replied and engulfed Anjali in a hug.
“Ahh babe…. finally, we’re here!By the way you look beautiful”
Breaking the hug Anjali looked at her friend and said “ forget about me, look at you babe….looking so gorgeous in that blue and white outfit.”
Ananya shrugged off the comment and said “whatever, let’s go to the cafeteria babe, I’m starving!” and together they headed to the cafeteria blissfully unaware of the obstacles that they were going to face.
