There have been stories about the spirits of the forest, but everyone told them thought they were fake. Until people started to go missing whenever they went into the forest and had been disrespectful to the things and life in it.
Time runs slow in the forest, a few minutes, hours, days, weeks, or months in the forest but outside the forest it actually was hours, days, weeks, months, or years
But this forest is guarded by what the townspeople called 'spirits' but in reality they're mythical creatures, they ranged from Centaurs, Cervitaurs, Avian like creatures, Fauns, Satyrs, pixes and fairies, among many more who don't show themselves but watch whoever enters the forest.
