[Introduction: When Mitch Met Tyler]
Mitch formally met Tyler in the winter of 2010, when they were both sophomores in high school.
Pre-P90 Mitch was anything but fit, so he naturally found himself tucked away in between the bookshelves of the library, or behind the desk checking in and out books. He was aware of Tyler's reoccurring presence, as he popped in and out from time to time to read a mystery book or two on his lunch or free period.
"Um, excuse me?" Tyler piped up from the opposite side of Mitch's table. Surprisingly, Mrs. Beckham, one of their newest teachers, decided to take her freshman class to the library for a 'field trip', making every seat but the two rickety blue ones in the back taken.
Mitch hummed softly, raising an eyebrow, not daring to peel his eyes away from the final climactic scene in Twilight: Eclipse.
"Do you know where Treachery in Death is?" Tyler's squeaky voice faltered as his eyes kept frantically moving back and forth between Mitch and the book. Mitch let out an exasperated sigh, closing his book carefully and looking up at Tyler.
"Third bookcase, second shelf." Tyler nodded solemnly, pushing himself out of his chair and standing up. Before he could wander towards the aisle, Mitch grabbed ahold of his sweater. Tyler's head snapped backwards immediately.
"Could you get Breaking Dawn while you're there, too?"
Tyler was taken aback by the boy's unashamed demeanor. He had not met one boy before Mitch who openly asked him - or anyone for that matter - for a Twilight book.
His only response was another nod, a blush rising to his cheeks as he bent down to grab Breaking Dawn, Treachery in Death already tucked beneath his other arm. Rushing back to Mitch as the freshman scurried out was a struggle, since they all huddled together like a flock of parakeets around a mirror, their feet threatening to knock him down every step he would take.
"Here." Tyler said quietly, sitting Breaking Dawn in front of Mitch.
"Thanks, did you find yours?" Mitch asked, smiling up at the flustered boy. Tyler felt his heart melt at the sight of his caramel brown eyes.
"Um, yeah. Thanks." He turned around to find a different seat when he heard the sound of the legs of a chair screech against the tile flooring. Mitch flinched from behind him at the sudden noise, sliding it out a bit more as Tyler looked back.
"You can still sit, if you want." Mitch said, still smiling.
Tyler returned the smile, but in the Tyler way - at first it was a smile, then he thought he had to be cooler so he attempted a smirk, which took the warm smiles place in the creepiest way possible. Mitch didn't seem to mind though, very aware of Tyler's social skills, and their lacking adeptness.
So they sat together in perfect harmony, reading their newfound books in complete and utter silence.
Their egghead bonding time came to a close at around 3:30, when the vice principal (who also happened to be Tyler's mother) announced each buses arrival over the loud speaker in a booming voice. She called bus 84, in which Mitch sprung out of his chair, slamming his book shut, and swinging his backpack over his shoulder.
"I'll s-see you later, then?!" Tyler shouted after him, Mitch responding with a thumbs up. Tyler's smile grew as the two maroon doors shut in front of him.
Little did he know, Mitch wouldn't be the same boy he met that day in the library forever.
