Alex sat at his desk at work. The town had been a lot calmer since the drug trade ended. He leaned back and clicked his pen, thoughts raced through his head. Thoughts of ways to get Norman away from Norma without making it obvious- without being directly involved, and without harming him. He desperately needed a plan, and he needed one quickly.

He snapped out of his daze when a knock on the door filled the quiet air of the room. It was officer McCoy, he internally sighed. As if his day could get worse.

"Good evening sheriff, you look busy", he said sarcastically.

"What do you want Lewis?" Alex asked.

"I don't want anything, I just came to say there are many people applying for the position as sheriff. You might want to be careful, I don't think it would be too far-fetched to say you might loose this Romero."

"Yeah okay, is that all you had to say?"

"Woah buddy no need to act so tough. But yeah that's all. I just thought I'd share the news."

"Okay you can leave now Lexis."

He walked out of the room but not without a grunt. Alex couldn't stand that guy. He had grown up with him, they went to school together. He was always a nuisance, not even a bully, just annoying.
He wouldn't lie, he was worried about losing this next election. He doubted he would be able to win against the candidates. What the town  wanted was a fresh face, and he- well he wasn't that. Losing his position as sheriff would definitely hurt, both his pockets and his self-esteem; but he knew it could help him. He knew it could help Norma. He had an idea, but it would be a major loss to carry it out.

The day turned into night and Alex realized he had passed out in his desk chair. 'Awfully professional' he thought to himself. He couldn't imagine it would be later than eight p.m. He looked at his wrist to check the time and his eyes widened. It was two o'clock in the morning. His phone was blown up with calls from Norma. Messages asking where he was.

He got up quickly and ran to his car. With screeching tires he pulled out of the police department and speed to Normas house. Emotions rushed though every part of his body, first sorrow. He had promised Norma he would stay there with her to protect her. He failed her, she probably thought he was like all the other men who misused her. But he also trembled with fear. He wanted to believe Norman would not hurt her, but he couldn't.

He swiftly pulled into the driveway and tripped up the stairs. He could only assume the knocks rang through the house and startled Norma. He got no response. He rang the doorbell without stopping. He was pounding on the door at this point- still no answer.
Without thinking he picked up a large rock next to the porch. He threw it at the window and it shattered into millions of pieces. Climbing through the window he screamed for Norma. His heart sank when he realized she still hadn't responded.
He bolted up the stairs and opened the bedroom door, he could have swung it off the wall with the amount of adrenaline coursing through his veins.

There they were. Norma and Norman together in the bed. He always thought it was strange but he didn't have time to think about that. He was loosing his breath, he was suffocating in the room.
He grabbed Norma off the bed and carried her lifeless body down the steps. She was in a gorgeous white gown, he couldn't believe such a beautiful creature could be gone.
He laid her down on the floor and began to perform CPR.
"Norma please baby. Please Norma." His words broke off into tears. He blowed air into her mouth and pumped to no avail. Norman was still upstairs. He ran up and brought him down too. He didn't care about him, but he knew if Norma pulled through she would never forgive him for leaving her son upstairs.
He was sobbing over her body. He had never cared enough to cry this hard about someone, but she was different.
He was lost, he reached for his phone to call for an ambulance when Norma gasped for air.
His thoughts cleared in the moment, his will to live returned along with the gasp.

911 was on the phone but he couldn't speak.
"Please send an ambulance- I'm at the bates motel."
He couldn't muster anymore words. He hung up the phone and stroked Normas face. She wasn't conscious but she was breathing. That was enough for him.

He looked at Norman and rage filled his body. He knew he had done this to her, he knew was going to kill her one day. He didn't care about Norman anymore, he couldn't have pity for the man who almost killed his love.
