Draco and Amara camped near the trees. Their levels of fear had been too high to venture into the village ahead of them, so they stayed where they were, even without their entire stock of supplies. The sun had set and dots of light beamed out of the homes they faced. Draco sat across from Amara, his gaze not leaving her once. She stared back at him, narrowing her eyes slightly.
"What's going through that small brain of yours?" she teased, nudging his leg with her foot. He smirked and shoved her leg away with an eye roll. Amara had learned to live with the silence of Draco Malfoy.
She knew that, in a situation like the one they had stumbled into, he would rarely speak.
"We should sleep. So we can walk tomorrow and have energy," he spoke, falling slowly onto his back. He looked to the stars that had begun to show in the darkening sky. Amara laid beside him, letting her eyes go to him.
She took a deep breath and moved slowly closer to him. Draco didn't move, his eyes didn't even flicker toward her. Her hand found his and, very slowly, she took his hand in her own. Draco smiled ever so slightly and let his fingers tighten around Amara's hand.
They stayed like that for a few moments, drifting in and out of sleep. Draco finally let himself look over at Amara, his gaze softening. She had fallen asleep. Her head was turned slightly and her hair had spilled all over the ground. He felt himself smiling.
She looked like an angel. She glowed in the soft moonlight that had rained over them. Draco, forgetting everything he had ever known, pulled her closer. Her head rested on him and his arms were wrapped around her--the girl he was instructed to hate. The hatred his father had planted in him began to vanish as his eyes traced every line on Amara. He saw every aspect of her. He had studied her. Everything in him burned for her now. The one person he never imagined he'd fall for was next to him, fighting against all odds.
Draco fought sleep off for what felt like hours. His eyes drooped and he sank into the deep sleep his body now craved. He allowed himself to slip into the abyss of his dreams. All he could feel was Amara.

Amara woke first. A smile crept onto her lips as she laid eyes on Draco's arms locked around her body. His cheek was pressed against the top of her head, his breathing steady. She hesitated in moving, not wanting to wake him from the sleep she knew he needed.
Eventually, she shook him. He woke with a start, whipping his head around. "Are you alright? Did something happen?"
He was frantic, grabbing for his wand.
Amara placed her hand on his shoulder, pulling him back to reality. He turned to her, eyes scanning her face. He let a hand move to her cheek, rubbing his thumb over her lips.
"I'm fine," she mumbled. "But we need to move." Her hands latched around her wand as she pushed herself up from the ground. She held her hand out for Draco. Her mind was screaming at her to move. To start walking and get to a safe place, away from the evil that chased her. But her heart, her God forsaken heart, was screaming even louder. It was telling her to wait for him.
He seemed to be in no rush. His head was too far up in the clouds to move any faster. After a few moments he took her hand, pulling himself up. Instead of letting go, he kept hold of her. Amara smiled to herself, letting her head drop. The walk was quiet. Birds chirped all around them and the sounds of a busy town came closer and closer. It came into view now, Muggles walked the street laughing in groups. Draco's pace slowed slightly, his eyes narrowing at the people.
Amara ignored him. Instead, her mind was working on ways to enter without drawing too much attention to themselves. She shoved her wand into a pocket and pulled Draco's out of his pocket. "What the hell?" He looked at her, eyebrows raised.
"We can't draw attention to ourselves, Draco. If they spot those it will raise suspicion." Amara had lowered her voice to a harsh whisper. They continued on, slipping into the town behind a large building. The two kept their heads down and walked swiftly along the sidewalk. "Listen, I have a small amount of Muggle money. We get a small place to stay and figure things out then. " she mumbled over her shoulder. Draco nodded in agreeance, scanning the people that walked around him.
Nobody spared them a single glance. They were invisible, like they blended in. Amara kept her head down as they walked silently alongside Muggles. She had some understanding of Muggle communities—she had taken Muggle Studies.
She kept walking ahead, looking for somewhere they could stay safely until they could truly blend in. Her mind flashed with images and readings about Muggles, trying to remember things she'd now need to survive.
"If you see something that says hotel say something." Draco looked over at her, a puzzled look on his face. Amara ignored his silence and tugged on his hand. She walked quicker. Her eyes had landed on the trees they came from. Hooded figures stood at the edge.
Her heart pounded and once she blinked, they were gone. Like they evaporated into thin air.
"Amara," Draco nudged her shoulder. "Is that what you're looking for?" A sign sat atop a light brown building. Windows lined the side and cars sat beside it.
Value Living Hotel
Her eyes lit up. She looked over at Draco, a small smile on her face. She started walking towards it, digging in the small bag that contained the money. "Okay, we go in. Don't make conversation we'll get situated and we can walk around? Figure things out."
Draco nodded and walked behind her as they entered. His brain was clouded with questions and confusion behind their way of living. He tried to keep a calm face.
"Good morning." A woman smiled. She wore black glasses and had deep green eyes. Her smile was warm and inviting, Draco stared at her intensely.
"Hello," Amara smiled. "Can we get a room?" The woman studied the pair, her eyes narrowing. She seemed to have begun to question them. But, shaking it off, she nodded.
The exchange was quick. Amara paid and they went to where they were instructed. Draco dropped himself onto the large bed and sighed. "Are we really doing this?" he huffed. Amara glanced at him.
"Well, I didn't think you'd be staying," she mumbled. "I thought your plan was to leave." Draco's eyes snapped to her. He pushed himself off the bed and walked toward her slowly. His hands met the sides of her face as he stared deeply into her eyes.
"Why would I do that?"
