5 - Learn Grammar

Make an effort to learn SOME proper grammar.

I can handle misspelled words and run on sentences on occasion. But there are reasons we have grammatical rules and you need to at least learn the basics, there are free programs out there that will help you check this stuff so look into that.

If you're truly an "author" then you need to actually learn how to write in a way that we can easily understand. Learning to write is part of being an author, not just having a story. I read an entire page long author note going off on how they don't know grammar.

The actual writing part is more than half of it, seriously, the whole point of having a story and telling it, is being able to communicate it to the point where people can understand it. If you can't do that, you're wasting everyone's time.

I literally read a story (well, a page and a half of a story) where there were no paragraph breaks between conversations. It took me half an hour to read a page (which is an eternity for someone like me) because I kept trying to figure out who was talking and what they were saying. I gave up.

Reading is supposed to be fun and fairly easy to do, if I have to struggle, I'm not going to waste my time, and neither are many other people.
