Two weeks later, everything changed.
Our little group had decided to take a short trip to Busan for the weekend. Namjoon offered to take us in his old dark green five-seater pick-up.The car looked in bad shape, but the owner assured us that it would work and get us home safely. He had done a complete overhaul of the car in his spare time after school, and he seemed particularly proud of his work. The noise the engine made when it started up, however, did not seem to agree, and we told Namjoon that if he wanted to take it home, he would have to drive it all the way.Jin sat in the passenger seat next to Namjoon, while Hoseok, Jungkook and I sat in the back seat of the car, with the black-haired man in the middle.
The first day went off without a hitch. We had travelled through a maze of roads and the journey went on without passing anyone. If the silence was sometimes oppressive, the music from the radio never failed to put us in a good mood. We soon forgot the fact that there were five of us that there were five of us, isolated in the middle of nowhere, singing at the top of our lungs like crazy.
And when we weren't singing, or rather shouting, when there wasn't any good music, I spent my time watching the landscape pass before my eyes, my head out of the car, loving the feel of the wind against my skin.
Just like the day before, the second day of the trip went wonderfully well. Around eight o'clock in the evening we stopped for a break. Namjoon had seen a café and we were parked in the shade in the car park.We were approaching summer. It was not yet dark, but the sun had already started its descent for a while. Everything around us seemed to be on fire, lit by the orange lights of the sunset.
After switching off the car engine, the handsome blond man turned to us and asked with a look as cheerful as it was tired:
"What would you like?"
"A coffee with cream and a cookie, please. And get the biggest size! " says Jin.
"And for me, it will be a caramel coffee with two blueberry muffins! Same size as Jin! And be quick, I'm starving! "Hoseok replied.
Namjoon let out a long sigh, then looked at the two boys and raised an eyebrow:
"You will come with me. So you will place your order directly with the waiters."
"- But-" protested Hoseok.
"- Come on, that's it ! "
I saw him exchange a knowing look with Jungkook, who was lying next to me, before I heard Hoseok and Jin give a little shout in turn.I didn't feel it. Suddenly Hoseok changed completely. He looked at both of us, and said with a vicious look on his face:
"Well, you two stay here! We'll get the coffees and come back! Jungkook,be a man! I haven't taught you all these things in the last few years for nothing! You better have done something when - "
Jin didn't let Hoseok finish his sentence as he pulled him out of the car by the arm despite the black-haired man's protests. The three friends walked away in the direction of the caféwhile we saw Seokjin and Namjoon staring at Hoseok, who looked at them with an apologetic expression, both hands in the air. And as the unease set in, my voice broke the silence:
"- We didn't even tell them what we wanted to take. "
