A couple of weeks had gone by. Jo ended up forgiving Amy. Today, Jo had Teddy and me hide in an area in the March's attic. She wanted us to join her and her sisters' theatrical society. Teddy and I stayed quiet as Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy were rehearsing a play.

"Oh, dear countess, pray for me...for I have sinned against meself
and me brother Rodrigo," I heard Meg say.
"You've got to say "sinned" as if you've really sinned," Jo said.

"Sinned. Sinned," Meg said with emphasis.

"Rodrigo. You arrive seeking
the Duke of Lankershire. Hark ye. Who goes there," Jo asked in character.

"Oh, I forgot the cymbals," Beth said.

"Why it's-It's Rodrigo," Jo said.

"Rodrigo," Meg said.

"I want to be Lady Violet. I'm exhaustified of being the boy," Amy complained.
"The play is the thing, Amy. You're too little to be Lady Violet," Jo said.

"Here, be the Countess de Montanescu," Beth said.
"You don't have any lines," Amy whined.

"Besides, who would be our Rodrigo," Meg said.

"Gentlemen, I propose the admission
of two new members to our theatrical society. Theodore Laurence and Emmeline Rogers. We'll put it to a vote," Jo said.
"Nay. I don't know about Emmy, but Laurie will laugh at our acting, and poke fun at us later," Meg said.

"They'll think it's only a game," Beth said.
"No, they won't. Upon my word as a gentleman," Jo said.

"Jo, when it's only ladies, we don't guard our conduct in the same way," Meg said.

"We bear our souls and tell the most appalling secrets," Amy said.

"They would find us improper," Meg said.
"Oh, Teddy and Emmy would do nothing of the sort. Oh, please. Let's try them. Shall we," Jo asked as Teddy and I came out of the place we were hiding.

"Jo," Amy exclaimed.

"Jo, you traitor," Meg said angrily.

"Fellow artists, may we present ourselves...as actors, musicians, and loyal...and very humble servants of the club," Teddy said.
"We'll be the judge of that," Meg said.

"In token of our gratitude, and as a means of promoting communication between adjoining nations...shouting from windows being forbidden, we shall provide a post office in our hedge to further encourage the baring of our souls and the telling of our most appalling secrets. We do pledge never to reveal what we receive in confidence here," I said.

"Well, then...do take your place, Rodrigo," Meg said as she put a hat on Teddy.

"Sir and Lady Rodrigo," Jo said before pretending to knight Teddy and me.

Jo doing that caused Teddy and me to laugh. Teddy genuinely laughed. It was like music to my ears. It felt good to be officially welcomed into the inner circle of the March sisters. Teddy and I couldn't have been happier to be accepted into their society.
