A couple of months had gone by. Teddy was back for the weekend from college. I was over at the March's since Beth had asked me to come over after she had gotten back from the Hummel's. She seemed unlike herself. She looked ill.
"I've sold 'The Lost Duke of Gloucester'! Five whole dollars! I'm an author," Jo shouted as she walked up to us. "Emmy? Beth?"
"The Hummel baby is sick," I told Jo."I feel so strange," Beth said.
Soon, Jo and I had Beth laying in her bed. We waited for Meg and Amy to get back. Once they did, Meg, Jo, and I began looking through books to find out what illness Beth could possibly have.
"She's burning up, but she says that she's freezing," Meg said.
"She has a terrible thirst, but she won't drink," I said.
"Sounds like Arsenicum, but she looks more like belladonna," Jo said.
"I saw the Hummels. Two children taken up to Jesus. Scarlet fever. You and Ms. Jo won't be harmed. You had it when you were babies," Hannah said to Meg. "But, Ms. Amy, we have to send you away."
That night, Teddy and I took Amy to her great aunt's.
"She won't die. Will she, Laurie," Amy asked.
"God wouldn't let her die," he answered."I don't wanna go away," Amy said.
"We'll come and see you every day. I swear it. You won't be alone," I said."I'm afraid of Aunt March," Amy said. "If she's unkind to you, we'll come and take you away," Teddy said.
"Where will we go," Amy asked.
"Paris," Teddy asked."If I get scarlet fever and die, give Meg my box with the green doves on it. And Jo must have my turquoise ring," Amy said.
"I'll see to that," I said."I don't wanna die. I've never fallen in love," Amy said.
"I tell you what. I promise to see you fall in love before you die," Teddy said.Amy stayed with her great aunt and Teddy and I visited as we had promised. Beth began to slowly get better, but the fever had weakened her heart.
