The next day, she awoke with a calm yet still a bit of a troubled mind. As she opened her eyes to the beam of sunlight peeking through the hospital windows, the horrible events of yesterday dawned upon her.
Tears then welled up in her eyes and they threatened to fall non-stop. But Fumika took a deep breath and wiped them before they could.
She fought the urge to just sit there and cry her eyes out. She wanted to be strong for her youngest sister. She's the only one that the girl's got.
A knock on the door then came from the outside, calling the attention of the bed-ridden girl.
A nurse opened the door a few moments later and greeted Fumika a good morning. He then checked everything from her IV fluid to her condition, wrote something on the clipboard he was holding and walked out.
As soon as the staff went out, another knock was heard.
The door opened this time to a girl, presumably younger than Fumika. Her long brown hair was put into two low braids and her dazzling brown eyes, glistening in tears.
"Fumika-nee!", the girl cried out as she ran towards Fumika.
The latter sent a smile her way and held out her arms in which the former readily jumped into.
"What happened to you? Why are you here in the hospital? Who did th-", non-stop questions flowed out from the younger's mouth making Fumika shake her head and place her hand on her sister's shoulder to stop her from adding questions.
"Listen carefully Kumiko. A group of bad people are after us. And they.....", Fumika took a deep breath before continuing, "I need you to be safe."
After a moment, Fumika gently placed her hand on Kumiko's face. Her slender yet beautiful fingers moving to wipe the residue of tears.
"It's dangerous for you to stay here Kumi. Do you remember Grandma's house?"
"The one we went to for summer vacation a year ago? On that little island?", Kumiko asked albeit with a shaking voice from crying.
"Yes. Yes, that one."
"What about it?"
"I would like for you to stay there for the mean time. The orphanage is no longer safe for us.", Fumika said as she looked Kumiko in the eyes.
"What?! And leave you here by yourself? No!", Kumiko was very vocal with her disagreement.
"It'll be safe for you there."
"And what about you? NO. I won't leave you!"
Fumika gritted her teeth. She had already decided on this and won't be swayed.
"Listen. I promise to come get you as long as I'm strong enough to protect you, okay?", Fumika's fingers then travelled to her sisters hair and placed the stray strands behind her ear.
Kumiko was silent but the tears threatening to fall from her eyes showed that she still do not agree with this predicament. But she knows that this is for the best.
"I-I'm sorry Fumika-nee.."
The older sent Kumiko a look of confusion. Why was Kumiko apologizing for her? For what?
"I'm s-sorry for being Q-Quirkless... If only I had a Quirk.. I could've helped you.."
Fumika's heart broke at the words her younger sibling uttered. Being Quirkless had always been Kumiko's trouble. It broke her heart everytime she saw Kumiko cry about being Quirkless but she was always there to reassure her that it is alright. That being Quirkless doesn't mean something is wrong with her.
"No.. No. What did I tell you about that? Being Quirkless is perfectly fine Kumi."
"B-But.."
"No buts. Being Quirkless just meant that you were destined for a slightly different path than the rest but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing. You are way more talented, kind and smart than people with Quirks than I know. Being Quirkless doesn't make you less than a human Kumi. With Quirk or not, you are my precious sister.", Fumika then sent a gentle smile full of love towards her sister.
After a few more minutes of talking and convincing, Kumiko finally agreed with Fumika's decision.
A nurse then came in, rolling a trolley with Fumika's breakfast on it. Seconds later, Principal Nezu and Aizawa walked in as well.
"Good morning Miss Shizen."
At the mention of their surname, the two young ladies of the Shizen family whipped their heads towards the door.
Fumika nodded.
"G-Good morning..", Kumiko greeted with a meek voice. Kumiko was indeed a bit shy with strangers.
The nurse properly placed the dishes on the foldable table by Fumika's bed. The girl thanked her and started eating. She then offered Kumiko a bite as she guessed her sister haven't had any breakfast yet judging by the rumbling of her tummy.
The black-haired girl also offered food to the officer but he politely refused.
After eating, Fumika wiped the corners of her mouth, as well as her sister's before facing the Principal.
"I would like to speak to you about something sir."
"Yes?"
Fumika then asked the small man if a couple of officers can assist Kumiko and accompany her to Nabu Island. It is a remote island making it the best place for her sister's safety. Not to mention, their maternal grandmother is living there so they don't have to worry about where Kumiko will stay.
"And..if you don't mind, I have another request."
Principal Nezu nodded and told her to go on.
"Please allow me to get in to U.A."
