"Reyna?" Annabeth stepped further into the house. "I just got here. From New York. Hey, where are you?"
No answer.
"Uh... Rey?"
Still nothing. She's probably just in the other room or something, Annabeth rationalised. She just can't hear me. Doesn't mean she's not here.
"Are you okay?" She was starting to panic, and she could hear it in her voice. "I hope you're okay, wherever you are."
There was a knock on the door, and Annabeth turned to see Hazel standing there, a little sheepish.
"Hey, uh, I was just wondering if you knew where Reyna is?"
"Actually... I was about to ask you the same thing," Annabeth admitted.
"You mean... you don't know where she is?" Hazel asked.
"No," she whispered.
"Oh, gods," muttered Hazel.
"I'll Iris-Message Camp Half Blood," Annabeth said quickly. "And Thalia, in case she's with the Hunters."
"Good idea," Hazel said. "I'll go look for her in the city. She's gotta be somewhere. Just try not to panic."
Annabeth nodded. "Okay."
-
"Percy? Is Reyna at camp?"
"No, why would she be?"
"She's... not here either."
"Try Thalia. We'll look for her on our end."
"Yeah. I will. Try Thalia, I mean."
"Okay. Stay safe."
"You too."
-
"Thalia!"
"Annabeth, is that you?"
"Yeah. Yeah, it is. Listen, have you seen Reyna?"
"Reyna? Not in the last two days. Why, what's up?"
"She's not at camp."
"Hm. Have you tried Olympus?"
"No. Why would she be there?"
"I don't know. Seems like a Reyna thing to do."
-
"Reyna?" Annabeth had finally found her girlfriend... in a jewellery shop. "Are you... feeling okay?"
Reyna laughed. "I'm fine, Annabeth. I just... came back to get you that necklace you liked." She held up a very small, very thin gold chain that had an elegant cloudy quartz charm, shaped like an owl.
"Where have you been?" Annabeth asked.
"Right here," Reyna smiled. "I'm sorry if I worried you. But... this is for you." She held out the necklace to her girlfriend.
"Oh, Rey... it's even more beautiful than I remember," Annabeth smiled, instantly melting. "Thank you."
"You're welcome. Would you like me to put it on for you?"
"Oh gods, please," Annabeth said, turning around and lifting her golden hair out of the way. Reyna carefully fastened the necklace, and it sat perfectly just above Annabeth's collarbone.
"You look beautiful," Reyna told her, giving her a gentle kiss.
"You do, too," Annabeth said. "Happy pride, Rey."
Reyna smiled wider. "Happy pride, love."
