Alex and Magnus were walking down the corridor, holding hands. To some, that would've seemed brave: they were putting themselves on display to the world, and any number of things could go wrong. But this was Valhalla. Homophobia wasn't tolerated, and especially not hate crimes - of any kind.
Well, that's what they thought, anyway.
So it was unexpected when some complete jerk and his mates started laughing in their direction, whispering about them, and obviously just making fun of them.
"Hey." Uh oh, Magnus thought. She's using her confrontational voice.
"What?"
"Why are you laughing at me?" Alex asked him curtly.
He snorted. "I'm not, dude."
Alex raised an eyebrow. "Yeah? Then what's so funny?"
"Listen, man, we're just having some fun," one of the other jerks said.
"I'm not a man," said Alex.
"Yeah, you are," laughed the guy, and his cronies laughed along.
"No, she's not, actually," Magnus said sharply. "I'd suggest you leave us alone."
"Aww," mocked the bully. "He's sticking up for his [t-slur] boyfriend. Didn't know anyone was gay here, but I guess better a [f-slur] than a [t-slur]," he said with distaste.
"I'd call you a dick, but yours is clearly so small, I'm not sure it counts," Alex said coldly.
"Aw, did the little bitch say something? You should've gone to Helheim, you know."
"I know you're secretly gay, but you've gotta stop projecting," Alex snapped at him. "Internalised homophobia helps exactly no one."
One of his 'mates' rounded on him. "Is this true, Chad? You're not gay, are you?"
"You dirty little [f-slur]," spat another. "Can't believe I thought you were one of us."
Alex swept out, leaving them to tear each other to pieces, and Magnus followed.
"Hey. Nice comebacks."
Alex held out his hand for a fist bump, and Magnus complied. "Thanks, Beantown."
"He/him now?" Magnus checked, and Alex nodded.
"We're officially [f-slur] now," Alex said seriously, and Magnus laughed.
"Happy pride, boyfriend dearest."
"Happy pride, Maggie."
