Sasha's POV

It had been hours since we left the walls on our expedition. Today's expedition was to capture titans for Hange's experiments and to reclaim land for people. So far, many people have died, the once green grass now covered in dark red blood.

But we kept riding. We searched through destroyed towns, searching for any survivors who may have lived, searching for titans which satisfy the Section Commanders desirers, killing any titans which didn't meet their expiations.

We were coming to a close for the day, stopping to set up camp.  Captain Levi and Section Commander Hange were yelling orders to their squads as the cadets followed, some setting up safe areas to sleep while some were cooking food.

Night was soon upon us as we sat around the fire, Captain Levi telling us what would happen the next morning. Section Commander Hange wanted to get some abnormal titans for experiments to see if it's different than normal titan experiments.

---------------------------------

It was around 5 in the morning as I heard screams coming from the forest we settled at. It seemed some people had heard it but probably me the most since growing up hunting made my hearing better than others.

Captain Levi was one of those people to wake up to screams. The smell of blood filled my nose. That meant people were nearby. Survivors! Captain Levi yelled orders as everyone got back on their horses, fiddling with their ODM gear on them.

"Everyone! Follow the noises and hurry up!" He yelled, charging forward as the Section Commander and Cadets followed him, hooves stomping on the ground as we rode.

We got there too late, seeing titans eating what remained of humans, blood splattered on windows and homes. A cry was heard as my head turned, seeing a titan reaching for something in the grass. Without thinking, I ran forward, slashing the hand off as Mikasa, one of my comrades, killed the titan. The other titans were killed by Jean and Connie.

The titan blood steamed off of me as I looked down on the ground. A child, no older than three, layed there with dried blood on her as it cried and cried. I sat down on my knees as I picked her up. She gripped onto me as her crying died down, her grip loosening.

"Is she okay?" I turned my head, seeing Mikasa sitting down beside me as Jean, Connie, Captain Levi, Section Commander Hange, and other cadets followed behind Mikasa.

"She seems fine. Not hurt or anything. Probably just in shock from what happened here." I gestured around us as I spoke. Looking around, I looked at the house in the trees. Humans were living here and somehow the titans were able to climb the trees.

I looked back down at the child in the arms. Her cheeks were stained with both blood and tears and she shivered, cold from the rain which was starting to drip down from the skies. I hugged her close, taking off my cape to wrap around her to keep her warm, even if it was damped from the rain.

Steam rose around us from the bodies of titans. The kid seemed to be calmer now, slowing breathing in and out as she seemed to be in a slumber. I mean, her whole family was eaten before her and she was the only one alive. She deserved this slumber.

--------------------------------

We rode on our horses back towards the walls. Losing a lot of people, we were also able to get the Section Commanders titans while killing lots in the process. They were absolutely excited, talking about all sorts of experiments they could try.

We returned to the walls, as my grip around the kid in my arms tighten a bit. Lots of people watched us as we walked by while on our horses. Everything was quiet expected for the sound of hooves against gravel and a few murmurs here and there.

We kept riding until we got back to our base. People came and took away our horses, bringing them to the stables to groom them and feed them. We all were able to relax for the rest of the day. If it weren't for the child in my hands, I would've fallen on the ground right now, complaining how hungry I was.

Jean, Connie, and I all walked to the kitchen to eat. They grab a roll of bread and a metal bowl of soup. I grabbed a few rolls of bread as I was starving! We had just spent a few days on that mission, who wouldn't be hungry!? As we were eating and talking about the mission, I felt the kid start moving around.

Looking down I noticed her opening her eyes, squinting them to adjust to the lighting. She slowly looked around the room as Jean and Connie stared at her. Then she looked up at me. I smiled.

"Hello. Enjoyed your nap I suppose?" I asked, smiling as I continued to eat my bread. All she did was stare at me before looking around once more before tears start to gather up in her eyes. "Oh! Please don't cry!" I yelped, trying to calm her down before she cried.

That was a complete fail..

She started crying, gathering the attention of a few other people around us. Some people left, trying to eat in peace. I frantically tried to calm her down, Jean and Connie trying to help as well. But she just cried and cried. I got up, hugging her to my chest as I bumped her up and down trying to calm her down.

She cried for what felt like hours before she started to die down. I looked down at her as she sniffled, stuffing her head in my chest. I sighed, sitting back down. I feed her some of the soup which she took before she settled down, playing with my uniform.

A/N

I feel like when writing I always have trouble making people talked because from this I feel like I always mention what's happening besides having others talk.

By the way, in this story, I most likely won't be including the deaths that have happened in the anime (Marco, Petra, Moblit, etc.)

Hope you enjoyed this!!
