Heaven

Tom and Fiona sat on the roof of the apartment building. The stars started to come out. Tom laid on his back and Fiona laid next to him.
The sky was like a distant diamond sky. The stars were a beautiful painting. Tom pointed out planets to her as a shooting star went by.
She felt like she was in a dream. Tom was untouchable, burning brighter than the sun. She saw a million little stars spelling out his name. It was a little taste of heaven.
Now that he was close to her, she felt like coming undone. She reached over and kissed him. They went back to bed before the sun rose.
Fiona got up later in the morning and rubbed her eyes as she walked into the kitchen. Tom had made breakfast for both of them. She sat next to him.
"What do you want to do today?" He asked her. They were off of work and it was one of the rare times they weren't busy.
"Anything as long as it's with you." She leaned into him. His phone rang. Oh no. She loved that Tom loved his job, but he would randomly have to leave and work odd hours. It was always to meet some deadline.
She cleaned up their dishes as he talked on the phone. She expected him to not be home all day if he had to leave. He nodded and hung up.
"I'm so sorry. The lawyer I work for is about to get a big case, and I have a lot of work to do with medical records and court dates."    Fiona nodded. He went to change into his suit.
Fiona sat on the couch. She normally watched tv on days Tom had to leave. She didn't want to risk leaving and have the news all over her.
"You look handsome." She told Tom when he came out. He looked good in a suit.
"I'll be home as soon as I can." Fiona knew he was telling the truth, but his job took time. He made good money, and he enjoyed doing it, so she wasn't going to get mad.
She decided to make hot chocolate. It was a rainy and foggy day, and she wanted to lay under a blanket. The hot chocolate was like a metaphor. Her glass was half full because of Tom.
She pulled out whipped cream and marshmallows. She couldn't decide which one to put on top, so she used both. She turned on her favorite tv show, Friends.
As she watched Monica and Chandler get engaged, she wondered if she had found that yet. She wasn't even sure if she loved Tom. She was dating him because they lived together. They were supposed to be living together because they were dating.
She got an email saying that the party was canceled. The weather looked rainy for weeks, and there was no time to have the party. She was hoping the party would happen so she could see Joe again. But she didn't need to see him again now.
She stayed at the apartment all day, hoping Tom would be home by dinner. She desperately wanted to go outside. It was so foggy that no paparazzi were outside of her building. But it was too risky to go out. Someone would recognize her.
"They're letting me come home at 6." Tom texted her. She started to make the pizza Will taught her how to make. She hadn't talked to Will, Matt, or Rachel in 5 months. Her office had been conveniently moved away from their offices. She had just finished setting the table when Tom came in.
"Is that my favorite pizza?" He asked her with a broad smile on his face.
        "It is. How was work?"
"It was long. I'm trying to convince my lawyer I can work from home tomorrow. There is construction right near my window, and it's so distracting."
"That would be nice. I wouldn't bother you, but I've always been interested in what you do."
"Did you hear the party was canceled?" Tom asked her.
"I did. I'm a little relieved. I got so stressed that someone had recognized me." Tom grabbed her hand.
"No one is going to recognize you." He told her calmly.
"Yeah, you're right." She realized why she was dating him. She felt safe with him. She felt welcome. She felt like she was enough.
She constantly asked herself who would stay with her. She wanted to hold on to anyone who liked her. But she realized Tom could stay. You could stay. She silently thought.
