The next day, Fiona knocked on Will's door.
"Can I come in?" She asked, knowing the answer.
"Why?" Will asked. He sounded irritated.
"I have something to tell you." He opened the door, and Fiona saw Rachel, the person who gave her her job sitting in his office.
"Matt has been going to a therapist these past few months. He seems really happy now." It was clear Will wanted to stay mad, but his face burst into a smile when Matt walked in.
"You look better." He said.
"I am. It's all thanks to Fiona."
"Ok. I forgive you." Fiona hugged Will.
"Hey, Rachel," Fiona said.
"Hey. Are you guys going to the gala tonight?" Rachel asked.
"Yes. Are you?" Will looked at Rachel.
"We're going as friends."
At lunch, they all went to Fiona's apartment. Will cooked them amazing grilled cheese sandwiches.
"What did you put in these?" Fiona asked Will teasingly.
"Love." He said dramatically. They all laughed at how cheesy he was.
"What's the point of this gala tonight?" Matt asked.
"It's to raise money for the poetry section of the library. It's pretty small, and we want to expand it." Rachel replied.
"Can't we just put our own poems in there?" Fiona joked.
"Yes. We can submit poems tonight that we can read at the library, and they might be published." They all began to talk about poetry and which poems to submit.
Fiona was having a great time, but something felt off. As she looked over at Matt, she realized that she didn't love him anymore.
She missed their one-way relationship when she loved him. She missed screaming and fighting in the rain. And that was the way she loved him.
He was so frustrating and complicated. But he got away by some mistake. Fiona was deep in thought as the doorbell rang.
"Alison!" Fiona said. She was surprised to see her.
"Hi." Fiona introduced Alison to Rachel and explained that Matt was dating her.
"I have to go back to work," Will said. Rachel agreed. Fiona checked the time and said she would catch up to them. Matt kissed her before he left. She could see in his eyes that he didn't love her either. And her heart wasn't breaking.
"How are you?" She asked Alison.
"I'm good. I've realized that there will be happiness after Mark. I just have to leave my past behind." Fiona smiled. She was glad that Alison was better.
"So you're dating Matt. How's that going?"
"To be honest, I used to have a thing for him, but I don't anymore. I'm sick of faking smiles."
"I don't think he has a thing for you either. Why don't you tell him?"
"I don't want to break his heart. There's a gala tonight, and he's my date. We already have outfits planned."
"Ok. But you'll have to break up with him at some point. Can I come to the gala?"
"Of course. You can be my other date."
"And does the offer still stand for me to be your assistant until I find a job?" Fiona looked Alison in the eye and placed her hand on top of Alison's.
"Of course. That offer always stands."
"How are you doing your hair for the gala?" Alison asked.
"I don't know. I've gotten tired of brown hair. I was going to go to a hairdresser after work and I'll decide then."
"Ok. Don't do anything permanent."
At the hairdresser, Fiona wanted to be unrecognizable. She told the hairdressers what she wanted, and they were shocked but did it anyway.
She asked one of them to take a picture and sent it to Alison. She immediately responded.
