Elvis and Vicky stood over near glass double doors as Mr. Taurog spoke with them. I stood off to the side behind the cameras and cameramen, arms folded to my chest. I had on a light cardigan since it got a little chilly as the sun went down behind the buildings and the Space Needle. As Norman talked with Vicky and Elvis, Elvis had his gaze on me. His stare was making my heart hurt, as well as making the whole of me tingle.
I felt terribly about what I said to him earlier in the car room, basically blaming him for everything unfavorable that had been happening to me lately. He couldn't help being in Seattle for a movie and staying in the same hotel I was working at. He also couldn't help falling in love with me. I needed to apologize to him at some point, and hopefully soon. But I doubted it would be soon or ever if Colonel Parker had anything to do with it.
Elvis and Vicky went into the building to start the escape scene. We had already filmed the scene inside with car, now they had to do the escape scene outside. Mr. Taurog decided not to use the stairs but use the doors that I looked out of at Elvis, and Vicky got lost.
"Okay, lights off!" Mr. Taurog shouted, and the set became dark, aside from the few lights that were actually connected to the building that lighted the area only a little, enough to see two people running through the set. "Action!"
Elvis and Vicky ran out of the doors, Elvis holding her at first, and then he set her down as soon as they were out of the doors. After he set her down and they started running, and Vicky tripped, even though Elvis had her hand. He helped her up as Mr. Taurog shouted "Cut!"
I saw Elvis kneeling in front of Vicky, probably asking if she was okay and checking her knees. She nodded and fixed Elvis's hat. They both grinned at each other – how adorable!
Mr. Taurog went up to them, spoke with them for a moment, then they headed on into the building again. After he shouted "Action!" again, Elvis and Vicky hastily ran out the doors like before and ran through the set as a man in a guard uniform chased them. I learned that a couple of the guards in the scene were actually guards there on the fair grounds.
Elvis and Vicky ran as Elvis had her hand, and they ran through the woven pillar design near the pond. They make it to the fountain pond, and Elvis picked Vicky up as he crossed the pond on a bit of concrete - Mr. Taurog forewent the stones, seeing this method easier for both Elvis and Vicky. Elvis wasn't even going to pick her up for it, but that changed as well. While practicing this scene earlier, Vicky expressed her fear of falling in, so Elvis stepped in and suggested that he would hold her in his arms as he crossed the pond. He was such a nice guy... yet he was off limits.
They made it across the pond, knocking a few guards into the water while doing so. Elvis felt so badly about this when practicing it earlier, but the guard men were good sports. Elvis and Vicky ran on, then Mr. Taurog shouted "Cut!" Elvis and Vicky stopped to catch their breath, and me, too. I had to follow them as they went since I vowed to keep eyes on Vicky the whole time.
