Chapter 17

1995. It was 7 a.m.
Alex woke up...And started changing.
He went to the bathroom to wash his face, brush his teeth.
And it was already 7:20
He put some parfum on. And went outside where Bobby was waiting for him.

"Good. Your woke up." Bobby said and they started walking.
"Yeah. I did."
"Yesterday...with who you talked?"
"Uhm..with James. We have a date today."
"Oh. This is why you are so happy." Bobby said.
"Yeah...I think so. He's great."
"But...What is with you and Luke?"
"Me and Luke? Ugh...nothing."
"Alex...You still like him?"
"You talked with that girl you have a crush on?" Alex quickly changed the subject.
"Not yet. I want today." Bobby answered.
"Good luck." Alex said.

They were already at school.
Alex and Bobby went inside the school and they saw Daniel. Wanting to hurt one boy.

"HEY!" Alex shouted getting Daniel's attention.
"What do you want?" Daniel asked.
"I want you to leave him alone."
"And if I'm not what are you gonna do?" Daniel asked.
"You gonna see."
"Alex...Let's go..leave him."
"Yeah. Listen to your friend."
"No. Bobby." Alex said looking to Bobby then back at Daniel. "Leave him alone. I will not repeat myself."
"Fine." Daniel let the boy go. And punched Alex on the face. And Alex punched back. They started fighting. Daniel was on top of Alex, and then Alex was on top of Daniel. Everyone watched then the principal came.
"What's happening here?" Mrs. Johnson asked. And the both boys pulled away.
"Nothing. Mrs. Johnson." Daniel said.
"That was not nothing!" Mrs. Johnson said.
"Alex happened. Mrs. Johnson. I was just walking to my locker and he just started attacking me. All I did was to protect myself!"
"That's not true! He wanted to hurt one boy! I was just protecting him."
"He's lying!" Daniel said.
"No. Mrs. Johnson. Alex is telling the truth." Bobby said.
"You just say this because his your friend!" Daniel shouted.
"Daniel. Go to the surgery. And Alex you have detention after school."
"What? That's not fair!" Alex said.
"Mrs. Johnson. Alex needs to go to the surgery too." Bobby said.
"No. He's going to class now!" Mrs. Johnson said.
"He's bleeding."
"That's his problem!"
"You got to be kidding me!"
"No. Go to class. Now." Mrs. Johnson said and left.

Bobby went with Alex into the bathroom. And started cleaning him. Bobby was angry about all of this, and Alex was too.

"You know, Bobby. You don't need to do it. I can do it myself!" Alex said.
"Nope. I help. It's almost done."
"Okay, Then...Thanks."
"Don't thank me!"
"We need to go to class now."
"Yeah." They stand up and left. They meet with Luke and Reggie outside.

"Alex...What happened?" Reggie asked.
"Nothing."
"That's not nothing." Reggie pointed at Alex black eye..
"I just got into a fight. Okay?"
"What? Why?" Reggie asked.
"That stupid Daniel, wanted to hurt someone so I stepped in. And we started fighting."
"Alex...you take care of everyone and you didn't even care if you got hurt." Reggie said.
"Eh...It's good helping people." Alex said and Reggie hugged him. Then after the hug Reggie looked at Luke.
"You guys really need to talk." Reggie said.
"Right." Alex said.
"Thank you. Bob...Let's go." Reggie and Bobby walked away.

"So..." Luke said.
"So... I'm sorry that I was avoiding you."
"Already forgetten. but you didn't had to."
"I know...But I didn't know what to say. And I thought you gonna be mad at me because I kissed you.
"Alex...That day when you left I wanted really to say something to you. But you already left and then you started avoiding me.."
"Luke...I...I'm really sorry. And what did you wanted to tell me?"
"I.....I wanted to tell you...." Luke started but was cut off.
"Alex!"
"James..." Alex said. "Sorry Luke...I need to talk with him. Can you wait a second?"
"Sure." Luke said rolling his eyes. And Alex went towards James. And James hugged Alex. Luke saw it, and he was so jealous.

"We can't go to the date after school."
"I heard that you got detention, and Daniel didn't. That's not fair."
"Yeah. Tell that to Mrs. Johnson."
"But, the date...we can go after detention?"
"Good idea. But I am gonna be there 2 hours."
"No problem. I am gonna come back. I don't live very far."
"Really?"
"Yes. Sure!"
"Fine by me." Alex said smiling.
"Good." James said and the bell was ringing.
"That dammit bell." Alex said and James laughed.
"Okay. See you later." James said.
"See you." And James walked away, Alex too.

"So..."  Luke started. As they started walking to their class.
"So.."
"You and James, huh?"
"We gonna have a date after detention."
"Oh, that's great." He said trying to hide the jealousy.
"Yeah. And what did you wanted to tell me before James came?"
"Uh. Nothing. It doesn't matter."
"You sure?"
"Yes" then they went inside the class room.

the detention hour. Alex thought this was so unfair. Daniel was the only one to blame. Alex just defended someone. As he entered the room, there was his old friend, Camila.

"Camila, hey. What are you doing here?" Alex asked as he sat down next to her.
"I could ask you the same thing." She said laughing softly.
"Yeah. Right."
"But, I'm gonna answer your question. I got in a fight with Jasmine."
"How come?" Alex asked surprised. Because Camila doesn't really get in fights.
"She said some shitty words about... uhm... gay people."
"Oh. Okay."
"Okay?"
"Yea, okay."
"Really?"
"Yes! And thank you for standing up to gay people."
"Of course!"
"Why don't we talk much? I miss you!"
"I miss you too. But you have another friends!"
"Yes! But I'm pretty sure you can be in our group!"
"Four boys and one girl?"
"Yep."
"I'm gonna think about it." She said shaking her head and smiling.

The detention was over. Camila and Alex went outside said goodbye and said they gonna talk later. And Alex saw James standing there, waiting for him. He went there.

"You really came. Huh?"
"Yeah. You thought I was joking?"
"Not really."
"I didn't planned something special. So what do you say if we just walk and talk?"
"I like this idea. Let's go." Alex said and they started walking.

"Okay. Alex let's ask questions. What's your favourite ice cream topping?"
"Really? That's your question?" Alex laughed softly.
"Yes! Now answer." James laughed softly too.
"Okay. Vanilla. Yours?"
"Chocolate."
"Good."
"Now ask you."
"Whats your biggest fear?"
"Uhm. Heights. Yours?"
"I never want to lose any of my friends. So that's it."
"Oh."
"Yeah. Now your turn."
"What would you do to make the world better?"
"Uhm. Stop people for being homophobic. And realise that we are people too. With feelings no matter who we love. And save the animals. Especially the dogs. I want people to care about them. And not kill them. Are so many people who care about them, but are so many people who doesn't."
"That's really good idea."
"Yeah."

They walked. Talked asked questions. Laughed. It was a really good time. But Alex still didn't wanted to tell him about his parents.
They said goodbye and left. James to his house. And Alex to the garage.

Alex was there. He opened the garage door. And there was Luke, sitting And writing something on his journal.  He didn't even looked up to see who entered.

"Hey Luke." Alex said as he sat down on the couch. Luke didn't said a word.
"What the hell Luke?"
"What do you want?"
"I talked with you. And you didn't even said a word to me."
"Go talk with James. Okay? Not with me."
"Oh. This is about James. I understand now."
"What?" Luke asked the first time looking up at Alex since he entered.
"That you can't accept the fact that i like guys. And now you understand that you really have a gay friend." Alex said sadly.
"What? No. No. You are thinking wrong. No." Luke said and he sat down next to Alex.
"Then what is it?"
"I.... I like you."
"Well. I'm your friend. So, you like your friends."
"No. I mean I like you more than a friend. That day when you left this is what I wanted to tell you."
"Oh."
"Yeah, oh." Luke said and stared at Alex lips then to his eyes then again at his lips. "Can I... uhm , kiss you?" Luke asked and Alex nodded. Then Luke leaned in. Alex too and they lips meet. They were kissing again for the second time. This kiss was better than the first one. It was passionate. It was sweet. And it lasted longer. After a few seconds they pulled away. Alex layed down on the couch. And Luke put his head on Alex chest and Alex wrapped his arm around him, and after a few minutes they fell asleep. Like that, holding each other close.
