Chapter 56

Before Edna said something Brenna opened her eyes and said,
"I heard my name. Are you talking about me?"
Edna said,
"Oh...you're awake?"
"I woke up when I heard you say my name."
I sighed and said,
"You mean you were pretending to sleep. Edna probably couldn't tell you were pretending. She is farther away from us and she is way bigger than us so it might be hard to see you very well. I could easily tell you were faking because you were literally on me."
Edna glared at Brenna and said,
"Is this true?!"
"I guess so. A lot of things were going on and I didn't really want to be in the middle of it!"
Edna sighed and said,
"That makes sense."
Edna paused and I saw her think for a second and she continued to say,
"Wait! Does this mean you knew about Soul all along?!"
"Well of course I did. I told you that I saw all her memories including the ones that she doesn't want to talk about to anyone which is understandable. She wanted to keep Soul a secret so there was no way I would tell you! That would be so mean!"
"I see your point but I still wish you said something about this sooner! I guess we can't really go back in time to change that though so I won't think about it to much."
I then said,
"This is great and all but weren't you going to tell me something Edna?"
Edna then said,
"Oops I totally got sidetracked! I actually wanted to tell you that I didn't think Brenna would bond with you!"
"Wait, why? I thought you said you knew that was going to happen and that's why you wanted me to come so Brenna could bond with me!!!"
"Yes you are powerful and that would be a reason for her to bond with you. There was another part that I thought for sure that she wouldn't bond with you for that reason! I couldn't bring it up because your friends were here when she was born! I was going to tell you when you came back here but it took you a while to come back!"
"I'm sorry about that. I got sidetracked with a lot of things!"
"That's what I thought. I'm not mad at you because everyone can get busy after all!"
"Well I'm glad you at least understand!"
Edna then looked at Brenna and said,
"Why did you bond with Silverheart knowing the consequences?!"
Brenna then said,
"Well she looked so lonely! I couldn't just not bond with her after seeing that! She was also pretty powerful too so I knew she could easily protect me!"
I then said,
"I don't get it. What consequences?!"
Edna sighed and said,
"Well when the leader dragon hatches it doesn't just look at how powerful the dragon is! It also looks for how long that dragon will live for! Once that dragon dies after the leader dragon bonded with them she will die around a thousand years later! So the leader dragon also needs to find a dragon that will live a long time! The leader dragon can not die if the dragon she is bonded to doesn't die!"
"Wait so you're saying Brenna saw that I was immortal and she still bonded with me?!"
"Yes, that is what I am saying!"
I then said to Brenna,
"Why would you bond with me knowing that you could never die?!"
Brenna then said,
"Like I said, you looked so lonely. I knew if I bonded with you I would see your memories. I wanted you to lean on someone to talk to if you couldn't say anything to anyone else!"
"Just because of that reason you decided to become immortal?!"
"Well yes. You didn't have a choice to be immortal anyways! I don't at all regret bonding with you!"
I sighed and said,
"Well I guess it's to late anyways. We can't go back in time and change it! I would feel horrible for doing this to you but you knew what would happen if you bonded with me and you still did it. It was your choice and I had no control over what you would do!"
"Well I'm glad you don't feel horrible about it! You are right, it was my choice not yours!"
I sighed and Edna said,
"You're taking this pretty well! I thought you would freak out that she bonded with you!"
I smiled at Edna and said,
"Maybe my old self would have freaked out about this but I've grown! I know I shouldn't freak out for something I can't change!"
"That's true. Well let's talk about something more happy like it's going to be weird seeing Brenna so big when her mom is so small!"
Brenna then said,
"What do you mean? I'm not going to grow any bigger than this!"
"WHAT?!"
"Well I decided I'm going to stay this size."
"Can you even do that?!"
"Well of course I can! All leader dragons can decide how big they are! They just choose to be so big because that makes them look more powerful. I would rather be able to cuddle with my mom so I'm going to stay this size."
"Well I never knew leader dragons could do that! You learn new things every day! Won't you be less powerful in that form though?! What if we get attacked?!"
"Well two things about what you just said. The first is that only Silverheart's family and really good friends know about this place and I know they wouldn't tell anyone. So I don't think we will get attacked and the second thing is that we have Silverheart and her family to protect us! I'm pretty sure they are stronger than anyone here! Also don't worry I'll be able to heal people even if I'm this small!"
Edna sighed and said,
"I can tell I'm not going to change your mind so I guess I will have to get used to the leader dragon being this small then!"
I laughed and said,
"That's true! I'm completely fine with it! She's way cuter in this form and I love when she's cuddling with me!"
Soul then said,
I decided I really love Brenna! She sacrificed so much for you!
She really did!
