(A/N: Welcome back to another Rayaari fanfic, by... yours truly!
Yes, this is a prequel to Past Life, which will focus on Raya and Namaari learning how to trust each other again (c'mon, it's pretty obvious from the title)
No, there isn't going to be music at the start of the chapters (there MIGHT be some at the end tho), bc I thought this would be a great oppertunity to show off all the awesome Rayaari fanart I found online!
(Disclaimer: I own none of the fanart in this book, all rights and stuff go to the people who actually made them!)
I think thats enough rambling from me. You guys can go read now! 🙃)
==============================================================================
(Raya's POV)
I wake up tangled in sheets, drenched in sweat.
It's okay, everything's fine.
My days of trying to fix the world are over. Kumundra is whole again, Sisu's alive, I've finally expanded my friend group.
Except to one person, Namaari.
Yes, I know, I trusted her. But we were gonna die. I didn't have any other options.
But now we've saved the world and everything, the euphoria has faded. For good.
She killed Sisu, caused the end of the world. And I'm just expected to, what, shrug it off? Like we didn't have a rivalry that spanned a long time?
I try to push these thoughts away as I rub the sleep from my eyes, and force myself out of bed. It's still early, the sun not even peeking out a little from behind the hills.
But I never wake up late anymore. I need to know this is real, that it's not going to fade away the moment I close my eyes.
So far, it never has. But I can't let my guard down just yet. Believe me, I know how fast things can be taken from you, especially when you least expect it.
Man, I'm hungry.
I leave my messy bed alone, and patter down the stairs, light on my feet so I won't wake Ba.
But before I can grab some food, there's a knock at the front palace door.
================================================================
(Namaari's POV)
I shift from foot to foot, sweat pricking up on my forehead.
This plan's been in my head for weeks, and now, it's finally sinking in.
I raise my fist to the door, and knock. Once, sharply.
Raya stands in the doorway, her hair tangled, feet bare. When she sees that it's me, her face contorts into a glare.
"Oh, it's you."
"Well that's a warm welcome dep'la."
"What do you want?"
"To make it up to you."
"Isn't it too late for that? You killed my best friend, caused the end of the world, and I'm supposed to do what? Forgive you for something unforgivable?"
"But, you trusted me..."
"We were going to die, and the others wouldn't, so I had to do something."
"I thought-"
"You thought what, that I'd instantly forgive you, and be grateful, forever in your debt?"
"Look, I'm sorry-"
"Well, I told you, it's too late for that. And I'm sorry, but I don't want anything to do with you Namaari. So just go, get out of Heart, get out of my life."
"Raya-"
"Just. Go. I'm done." She slams the door in my face.
Rubbing my tingling nose, I stand at the door, hoping she'll open it, and things will be okay.
I wait until sunrise, and then go home.
===========================================
(Oh noes! Raya hates Namaari again. Don't worry guys, things will be fine! They will reconcile, eventually....
Before I begin to plan out chapter 2, just wanted to say that updates will be kinda irregular, as I need to get story ideas first!
Au reviour! See you guys next chapter. 😄)
