As Lin was heading back, Korra and Asami tried evacuating the citizens away from danger. However, Korra started to have problems of her own as a giant behemoth appeared behind her, covering her in his own shadow. She turns around, putting her arms over her chest to lessen the impact of the giant's swing. Looking up, Korra could tell that this abomination was Oni, one of the seven members of the Blood Circle. Seeing the demonic mask, Korra quickly got into her fire-bending stance, shooting flames towards the beast. However, it didn't seem to do much damage. She tried using her other bending, first starting with air, water, then earth, but nothing seemed to work. Oni just laughed as he continued throwing his punches at her. All Korra could do is distract Oni as she does her best to move the fight far away from Asami and the crowd.

Missing all of his attacks and feeling rather annoyed, Oni sprints across the city on all fours, leaping towards Korra. Reacting just in time, she manages to dodge the monster's attack and uses her fire bending to increase the distance between them. Korra assumed that keeping her distance was her best chance of fighting, but her thought was quickly corrected as Oni smashed his enormous fists against the ground, creating rubble from the impact. Using the debris as throwable objects, Oni grabbed the small fragments and positioned himself in a pitcher's stance. With great power being concentrated into his throw, Oni propels the small wreckage towards Korra's general direction.

Seeing the incoming pieces, Korra uses all of her strength to pull a giant piece of the earth from the ground and uses it as a shield to protect the citizens. Korra managed to save the people behind her, but some of the people that were still rushing to leave the vicinity got injured from Oni's attack. Their corpses stared at Korra lifelessly against the floor, reminding Korra of her past mistakes. This only instilled fear into Korra's heart, distracting her from fighting against Oni. Realizing that fighting within the city limits would only do her more harm than good, Korra tries to take the fight as far away as possible. Looking over at Asami's worried expression, Korra makes a run for it as she does her best to remove herself from any nearby crowd. Noticing Korra leave, Asami runs after her, leaving a few police officers to guide the citizens to safety.

Using her size to her advantage, Korra jumps around from building to building, entering through small windows or open doors. By doing so, she can hide within the city walls, making it harder to spot her.

Korra hoped she could outrun Oni and have time to think, but her environment worked to her disadvantage instead as Oni can break through all the apartment walls. This made things impossible for Korra as she is unable to use her bending in such refined spaces. Limiting her use of space, all Korra could do was run for her life. The beast roars every time he detects Korra, punching his way through every environmental obstacle. This didn't matter to Korra as all she cared about was getting him away from populated areas. Thinking about the best place to fight Oni, the first thing that comes into her mind is the shipping docks.

"If I was able to drag Oni there, I can enter into the Avatar state and use the huge amount of water around her to fight him off." Korra thought to herself.

Korra also knew that there wouldn't be any boats arriving at this time, since the boats had just dropped her and other passengers off, and are now heading to the different nations. With no better ideas in mind, Korra climbed up the nearest stairs and headed towards the rooftop. Reaching her hand towards the peak of the building, Korra was aghast to see Oni waiting for her. Oni begins to swing his left arm towards her, but Korra manages to dodge his attack. Sliding underneath him, she uses her fire bending to boost herself from one rooftop to another.

Running with great speed, Oni catches up with her and manages to grab one of her legs. Throwing her like a child throwing a stick, Oni launches Korra into a nearby building. She crashes through the walls and is barely able to protect herself using her air bending. Although she managed to save herself from immediate death, Korra is barely able to maintain any of her consciousness. Her ribs are cracked and her breathing is restricted. This doesn't falter the Avatar as thoughts of her previous failure only make her more determined to live and succeed.

"I failed Mako and Bolin... I can't fail anyone else. If I'm not the Avatar what the hell am I" Korra monologues to herself.

Struggling to regain her balance, Korra rises from the ground and continues to make her way towards the shipping docks. Opening the door in front of her, she is relieved to see she made it.

However, her content grows further as she hears a loud stomping noise nearby. She slowly turns to her left, regarding Oni running towards her with intense barbarity. With one faint smile on her face, Korra expresses a smug attitude.

"You're fucked now!" Korra whispered.

Oni was confused, but his attempt to retreat was far too late. From here, Korra turns on her Avatar State and uses the nearby water from the shore to entrap Oni in a water prison. Oni tries to reach in to grab Korra, but fails to do so as the surface of the prison is flowing so rapidly that it ends up chopping his arm off. With the remaining strength that she had left, Korra makes the prison smaller and smaller until Oni is completely crushed by the water pressure. What started as a water ball suddenly turns into a watery grave as what remained of the beast was red liquid and internal organs floating within the prison. Korra had used her Avatar powers to smash and shred the giant beast into an enormous human smoothie.

As she releases the prison a huge splash of blood and organs flies out through every direction. The sky gets darker as it begins to rain with the leftover remains of Oni. Exiting out of the Avatar State, she regains her consciousness only to pass out a second later with a content smile on her face. For the first time in forever, Korra felt happy as she managed to save Asami from potential death.

She starts having flashbacks of the time she shared with Asami in the spirit world. She remembers her cute face and red lips. She remembers her black hair and red skirt as both of them walk through the clear waters together. Korra tried her best to keep her eyes open as she didn't want these to be her last memories, however, she is unable to control her own body as her eyelids begin to close.

With no one around, Korra reaches out into the sky, calling out her friend's name...

"Asami... I love you." Korra stated before passing out.

Walking down the docks to find Korra, Asami sees her friend badly injured and passed out. She rushes to her as she begins to wipe the enemy's organs off her face. Asami begins tapping her on her cheek, trying to wake her up from her intense battle, but to no use. With no other option, Asami carries Korra onto her back, dragging her up the long flight of stairs and towards the nearest hospital. Asami begins to cry as she thinks her friend could be potentially murdered if she doesn't make it in time.

Even though Korra is heavier than expected, Asami decides to ignore her pain and exhaustion as she carries her friend throughout the city.

"You can't die now!" Asami screams.

Finally arriving at Republic City's central hospital, Asami cries out for the nearest doctor, seeking Korra's medical attention. A couple of nearby doctors and nurses drop everything, hastening over to Korra's aid. After the doctors carry her to the emergency room, Asami begins to cry as she is worried Korra will die before hearing her deepest secret: that she is in love with her. As tears fall from her eyes and onto the floor, Asami notices Korra's blood on her hands.

The thought of her friend being dead starts to haunt her as her hands begin shaking from her potential trauma. She runs towards the nearby bathroom, vomiting into the toilet. After releasing all of her inner demons from her mouth, Asami gets up and stares into the mirror. From this moment on, she realizes what Korra truly felt the day Mako and Bolin died.
