Xiao Zhan tried to talk to Yibo but he was never allowed access. Even though he was now a servant, Yibo asked that he wasn't given any work, he just wanted him confined to the servant's quarters. The reason was because he didn't want to run into him.
The concubines, except for Ze Han all came to see him with their own eye. They all wanted to make fun of him saying they couldn't believe the untouchable Xiao Zhan had been reduced to a slave.
"He is a special slave, can't you see he still wears exquisite clothing? His clothes are more expensive than yours", one concubine said to another.
"In only a few years, he is already so used to luxury. Second master was kind enough to prevent him from doing any work. He can be the leader of the slave quarters". They all laughed while the person spoke.
"You should save these clothes to wear to second master's wedding. At least, you should look presentable on that day".
Xiao Zhan's heart nearly stopped beating. His face had been down all this while but he finally lifted it up when he heard them mention Yibo's marriage.
"He's getting married?". It had barely been a week since. Yibo didn't try to reach him and he was blocked at every turn when he tried to approach. One time, a guard used a weapon on him and Yibo didn't spare him a glance. Had things become that bad between them? Why didn't Yibo try to hear from him at least? Was this the love he promised? Even though the position they were in was indeed implicating enough, he believed Yibo should have at least trusted him a little. He could accept anything else but this... this was too much.
"You're not aware? He is getting married to Ze Han in 2 months. A date has been fixed. Don't tell me Ze Han said nothing to you, I thought you were best of friends?".
Ze Han was indeed the only one who didn't try to visit him, not even to make fun of him. He sincerely saw them as friends.
"I heard he chose Ze Han because of your recommendation. You even recommended your own replacement? Hahaha Xiao Zhan, you must have committed an unspeakable crime in your previous life to have such shitty luck in this life".
No, the only crime he committed was allowing himself to be deceived by Ze Han's fake friendship. Now he realized, the other concubines had outwardly shown their dissatisfaction, they were the least of his worries. Ze Han had hidden his deep in his heart and plotted his way into his position. Xiao Zhan wanted to scream at his own stupidity.
Days turned into weeks and the wedding day arrived. For the first time since he arrived at the servant's quarters, he received news from Yibo, he was asked to come over.
Xiao Zhan had put on an indifferent look but in his heart, he was in the worst kind of pain. He tried to look his best in the little way he could and went straight to Yibo's residence.
Upon arrival, he was made to wait outside in the courtyard. He took a look around. Everything that was placed there by him was nowhere to be found. The pots of red roses were now replaced with white lilies that were yet to bloom. The swing he constructed by himself to relax in the evenings with Yibo had been brought down. The decorations he made on the stone chairs, those still remained with visible marks of vandalism.
This place was called a courtyard but to him, it was a private garden back when he lived here with Yibo. His eyes welled up and he felt his heart beating wildly, he felt coming here was not such a good idea after all.
Soon, he heard the door leading to the courtyard open up and he laid his eyes on him yet again, it was the man he had known since he was only 4 years old. He watched him at every point of his life. He saw him grow from silly to wise, from childish to mature, from cute to strikingly handsome, from young master to lover and now it was as if they were strangers.
