Mission: Protect Xiao Zhan (Completed)

ARC 4: Marked 1

"You have to pull yourself together Wang Yibo. This space is connected to your consciousness. If you lose control, it's going to collapse and you'd be sent back to the main world, unable to return. You might not get another opportunity to save Xiao Zhan".

Wang Yibo remained squatting, his hands across his knees and his head buried in his hands. He made no sound but he was in an extremely unstable condition.

He had watched his greatest nightmare come true, he watched Xiao Zhan die. He didn't know how to cope with what he saw.

Ak assured him the mission was a success because thanks to him, Xiao Zhan made it to his 30th birthday but to Yibo, that didn't matter. He died on his 30th birthday. The man he had missed for so long, he didn't even get the chance to talk to him.

The last world was fast, everything happened in a span of 3days. Just when he was happy, thinking things turned out for good, the universe...or whoever was in charge of everything, dealt him the biggest blow.

"I want to go back to the main world, I want to see Zhan ge".

"I can make that happen but are you going to ruin his chances of survival because he died in one lifetime?"

"I know...but I felt he was going to live for a long time". Yibo was almost in tears. He was grieving. He found the last world difficult to accept but it opened his eyes to a lot of things. The first two worlds were not so bad. Xiao Zhan had fallen in love with him twice but that was not a guarantee that it would happen in every world. He still had to properly chase after his man while keeping him out of harm's way.

Yibo thought back to the main world, the last time he saw Xiao Zhan, he was barely hanging on to his life. If he felt this way, what would happen if he backed out and Zhan eventually died? He had to keep pushing. This thought finally gave him some sort of motivation. "I'm ready to move on to the next world", Yibo was in so much pain, he wanted to see Xiao Zhan as soon as possible.

"Why not continue your learning?"

Yibo remembered it took him 4 whole years just to learn a bit of that medical skill. He wondered how long this was going to take, he went for it anyway.

It took him only 3 months to perfect this skill to an advanced level as he poured in all of his time and energy. He left himself no breathing space because anytime he got a break, he thought of that explosion and his heart tied up in knots all over again. Besides, it turned out that it was easier after the basis concept has been grasped. He jumped into the next world after 3 months of intensive learning without saying a word to AK.

When Yibo opened his eyes, he was in bed. The memories of watching Xiao Zhan being blown to pieces was still fresh, the pain hadn't subsided even one bit. He lacked the motivation to get out of bed but he remembered, this was a new world, Xiao Zhan was still alive. He went ahead to recall memories of this world.

In this world, Wang Yibo was 20 years old. He grew up in an orphanage as well but was lucky to be adopted by a lonely older woman when he was 6 years old. She took care of him and doted on him like her own. Unfortunately, she passed away peacefully when he was 18, leaving him a house and a fat bank account.

Yibo in this world had very few friends. Apart from his Ma; as he called her, he wasn't attached to anyone else. But he had colleagues at work.

This particular world was special because the two sexes; male and female were further split into 3 categories. There were Alpha's, Beta's and Omegas.

In terms of strength, the alphas were the strongest, followed by the betas. The omegas were delicate and mostly considered weak but there were only a few of them in existence which made them precious.

Of all 6 sexes, only the male alphas were unable to bear children. The female alphas could bear children but their chances were very slim. The betas had an average chance and the omegas had very high chances. At a time, the world depended on them to replenish their diminishing population.

When in heat, omega's released pheromones which would attract an alpha. Their heat usually had cycles but sometimes, it came unexpectedly. When an alpha is attracted to an omega's scent, he instinctively feels the need to mate. At that time, they lose all sense of reasoning and only follow their instincts. If an omega went into heat in public, it would simply result in a number of alphas fighting each other to mate with the omega.

Once an omega is marked, they carry the scent of their alpha and submit completely to them. If they get into heat, no other alphas would be attracted to them but their own bonded pair. When an alpha bonds with an omega, if he ever finds himself under the influence of anther omega's pheromones, his bonded omega can help him regain his sanity. Betas are completely immune to pheromones of both alphas and omegas.

Wang Yibo happened to be an alpha, and so was his adopted mother.

From his memories, Yibo had not yet met Xiao Zhan. He remembered how he only caught a glimpse of Zhan in the previous world and felt a bout of depression. He hoped it would be different this time around.

Yibo finally dragged his depressed self out of bed. It was a Friday and he had to resume work by 10am. He stopped by a café to grab a cup of coffee and when he was about to return to his car, he heard someone talking, this voice sent chills down his spine, he dropped the hot coffee involuntarily, spilling some of it on his clothes. He felt some scalding pain where the coffee touched his skin but he paid no attention to it.

He could feel his pheromones running wild in his body as he walked towards the direction of the voice. He finally caught sight of the person talking. Yibo realized there and then that no matter the situation, he would recognize Xiao Zhan at a glance.

Zhan was handsome as always, he could tell from his back view but he had a certain warmth and softness around him. as Yibo got closer, he could pick up Xiao Zhan's smell. He smelled like flowers... Xiao Zhan was an omega.

Feeling a presence behind him, Xiao Zhan turned around and his eyes met with Yibo's. Before he could say a word, he was pulled into a hug by this stranger. This man didn't stop there, he went ahead to kiss him deeply.

Yibo kissed him, ignoring Zhan's struggle to free himself from his grip but he soon caught a whiff of a certain smell which made him end the kiss abruptly. Xiao Zhan carried the smell of an alpha. He had been marked.
