Chapter Fourteen - Betrayal

As Daken revealed his true nature, the group was stunned. At this point, X-23 steps forward.

X-23: Go. 

Kirishima: But Laura...

X-23: You need to get Bakugo to safety! I'll be fine. Go!

Left with no other choice, Midoriya and the others left to get Bakugo to safety while X-23 found herself fighting against her brother, X-23 still couldn't fully process Daken's actions.

X-23: Why?! Why are you doing this?!

Daken: This wasn't ideal, sister. I warned you that you wouldn't like what happens next.

Without warning, Daken lunged at X-23 and attacked her with his claws. She barely had time to react to his attacks. During the melee, Daken thrust his claws into her stomach. As she coughs up blood, she looks into her brother's eyes.

X-23: W...why?

Daken: Someone like you could never understand.

Daken then yanks out his claws and continues slashing at X-23 who was quickly overwhelmed by her brothers assault.

Daken: I'm a little disappointed, sister. I thought you would put up a better fight.

Daken does nothing as X-23 slowly gets up. Daken chuckles as he detracts his claws. As her hounds began to heal, X-23 looks upon her brother with anger in her eyes. 

X-23: How long....how long were you working with the League?!

Daken: I'm afraid you're misinformed. It's not the League I'm working with. It's Romulus. 

As Daken said Romulus's name, X-23 was shocked. She had heard stories about him from her father. X-23 readied her claws and lunged at Daken, but Daken easily dodges her attacks. 

X-23: Why?! Why?! Why betray us?! Why betray Dad?!

Daken: My father's life is so small, so caught up in its own gravity. There's no scope. No vision. That's why I don't even want it. I want something else......something more. Now, I will live in my own shadow. I will become a shadow. As well as the light that creates it. My time has come. Beware the fury of a patient man.

Consumed by anger, X-23 lashes out at Daken and attacks him with her claws. Despite landing a few hits, X-23 was quickly overpowered by Daken and he proceeds to brutally hack and slash at his sister with his claws. X-23 attempts to fight back, but Daken proves too much for her. When Daken relents, X-23 is a bloodied and cut up mess. 

Daken: Look at yourself, sister. It seems you've learned nothing since the Sports Festival. You're just like father. As angry as you are gullible. Of course, now my original plan is no longer an option. But I'm a patient man. I can wait. 

Even as her wounds healed, X-23 struggles to get up. Daken knelt before his wounded sister. 

Daken: I could teach you so much. Like how you should hate Wolverine instead of working with him. 

As Daken attempts to turn his sister, X-23 musters up the strength to ram her claws into Daken's jaw. This attack initially stuns him, but he quickly recovers as he grabs X-23's hand and pulls it down, taking her claws out of his jaw. As his wounds healed, Daken chuckles. He then grabs her by the skull and throws her against a wall. As X-23 tries to get up, Daken walks up to her. 

Daken: Stand down. You can't win. 

Despite Daken's warnings, X-23 gets up. Daken sighs as he cracks his knuckles. 

Daken: I really wish we could work together, but you're too stubborn.

Daken then walks towards X-23 and rams his claws into her stomach. He then proceeds to repeatedly stab her in the stomach. He then follows through by kicking her in the face, dropping her to the ground. As X-23 struggles to get up, he digs his claws into her back and lifts her into the air. He then slams her body through a pipe, impaling her. As X-23 struggles to free herself, Daken sighs. 

Daken: We really aren't so different.

X-23: I'm...I'm nothing like you!

Daken: Keep telling yourself that. You were created to be a weapon. I was forged into it by circumstance. Wolverine is no different. 

Anger began to swell up within X-23 as she attempts to attack Daken. Much to her frustration, she is unable to move her body or even free herself from the pipe. At this point, Daken presses his foot against X-23's head. 

Daken: I want you to remember this, sister. I could've killed you, but I didn't. I'm letting you live so you know that I've beaten you. I want you to remember who is superior. Killing you is beneath me. But if you continue to stand with Wolverine, all debts will be forgotten. Goodbye, sister.

With that, Daken turned his back on his sister and begins to walk away. As Daken walks away, X-23 struggles to free herself. When she finally frees herself from the pipe, she slowly gets up and attempts to chase after him. Despite her efforts, she didn't make it far as she collapsed to the ground. 

X-23: (Damn....it....)

X-23 then attempts to crawl towards Daken, but she is unable to keep up with him. Eventually, Daken escapes, leaving X-23 behind. It wasn't long until X-23 lost consciousness. After some time, Wolverine came upon the seen and saw his unconscious daughter. He rushed to her and checked on her. 

Wolverine: What the hell did they do to you, kid? Let's get you out of here. 

Wolverine then picked up X-23 and took her to safety. As X-23 lost consciousness, she had been betrayed by her own brother. As Wolverine carried her to safety, a fateful battle between All Might and All For One would change the very foundations of Hero Society as well as bring about a new and uncertain era.
