Chapter Three - A New Challenge

After the Internships, X-23 and Daken made their way to Class 1-A. As they took their seats, Kirishima approached them.

Kirishima: Hey Laura! How was your Internships?

X-23: It was interesting. It was mostly patrols with my Dad and brother. We took down some punks along the way.

Kirishima: Manly! I always knew Wolverine was a manly Hero!

Before Daken could respond to Kirishima's words, Aizawa entered the class.

Aizawa: All right everyone, get seated. I hope you learned something from your internships. Now we're getting ready for the final exams.

As Aizawa said this, all of Class 1-A took their seats. Upon hearing of the Final Exams, all of Class 1-A were anticipating what the Final Exams would consist of.

Aizawa: There's gonna be two portions to the exams. One's gonna be a written and the other is gonna have a pair face off against a faculty member. You'll have till the final week of June to study. Those who fail will be taking remedial classes instead of training in the Cabin Lodge for the summer.

Before anyone could respond, Aizawa had gotten into his sleeping bag and took a nap. Daken lets a chuckle escape from him. 

Daken: This will be nothing. 

X-23: Don't be too sure about that, Akihiro. 

X-23 then turned her attention to Mina and Kaminari who were practically begging for Yaoyorozu's help. Daken couldn't help but scoff at this. 

Daken: How pathetic. Look at them begging for help like dogs. Trash like that have no buisness being Heroes. 

Upon hearing this, Kirishima took great offense to this. 

Kirishima: Hey! You watch your mouth! Those are my friends!

Daken: Heroes don't beg. They work with what they have. Any Hero who begs for anything shows everyone just how weak and incompetent they are. 

As Daken continued to talk down on Mina and Kaminari, Kirishima was tempted to punch Daken in the face. As he was about to do so, X-23 stopped him. 

X-23: It's not worth it. 

Suddenly, an unusually bouncy and bubbly Yaoyorozu approached the three. That seemed to ease the tension between Kirishima and Daken. 

Daken: Can we help you?

Yaoyorozu: I'm going to have a study session over at my home for the weekend. If anyone wishes to join, you are more than welcome to! My home has more than enough space to accommodate anyone who wishes to join!

It didn't take long for some of the other students to take Yaoyorozu up on her off. It included Mina and Kaminari as well as Kirishima.

Yaoyorozu: What about you, Laura? 

X-23: I don't see why not. I guess it wouldn't hurt to study with a group of friends. 

Yaoyorozu: What about you, Akihiro?

As Yaoyorozu asked, Daken was initially silent. Kirishima made it very clear that he didn't like Daken, not that he care either way. 

Daken: I have nothing better to do. I'll take you up on your offer. 

Yaoyorozu: Wonderful! We'll meet after class! 

Kirishima: Hey Laura, can I talk to you in private for a minute?

X-23 and Kirishima then walked to the back of the class to speak in private. 

X-23: What's wrong, Kirishima?

Kirishima: It's your brother. 

X-23: I don't blame you. My brother isn't exactly a friendly person. 

Kirishima: I didn't mind him at first. He seemed like a cool guy. You see how cool I am with Bakugo. But ever since the Sports Festival, there's just something about that guy that really rubs me the wrong way. 

X-23 then recalled how Kirishima developed hostile feelings towards Daken as a direct result of her fight with him at the Sports Festival. Ever since then, Kirishima didn't get along well with Daken at all. 

X-23: If it's about our fight....

Kirishima: It's not just that, Laura. It's just that....it's just that he's got some issue with everyone. It's not like Bakugo. With Daken, it's like as if no one's ever gonna be good enough in his eyes. Just look at how he talked about Mina and Kaminari. I knew Mina since middle school! She's got every right to be here as everybody! When he started talking about her like that, my blood just started boiling. 

X-23: I understand your thoughts on this, Kirishima. Akihiro can be insufferable at times. But that's just the way he is. 

Kirishima: How do you deal with that?

X-23: He's my brother. Despite his faults, I love him. Sure he can be insufferable at times and he gets on my nerves more than once, but at the end of the day, he's still my brother.

At this point, Kirishima was moved by this. While it didn't change his opinion on Daken one bit, he grew to respect his girlfriend even more. 

Kirishima: That's....that's pretty manly of you, Laura. Akihiro's lucky to have a sister like you! And I'm sure as heck lucky to have an awesome girlfriend like you!

X-23 chuckled as she kissed Kirishima in the cheek. After that, class was dismissed. As some of the students made their way to Yaoyorozu's house to study for the Final Exams, Daken spoke with his sister. 

Daken: Insufferable? 

X-23: You heard that? 

Daken: I have good hearing. And besides, your boyfriend is loud. Insufferably loud I might add.

X-23: You might want to take some pointers from my boyfriend, brother. You just might learn something. 

Daken rolled his eyes with a small smirk on his face as he and X-23 continued making their way to Yaoyorozu's house to study for the Final Exams.
