Stealing The Show

Back to the studio again after a big win, Miss. Abby was gonna be in a great mood today.

Everyone walked into rehearsal, ready for the pyramid.

I sat down next to Chloe and looked up at Miss. Abby, ready to hear what she has to say.

"Let's talk about Starbound competition," Miss. Abby started, "Can we have a round of applause? Whoo-hoo!"

Everyone clapped, I had a big smile on my face.

"Okay. So, Brooke," Miss. Abby says, "you blew them away. The people sitting around me were in awe when you did your handstand twist. But why all the drama with the hip? Hmm? If you are seriously injured, you don't need to go to your mother and get everybody worked up, you come to me-- and that needs to be clear, yes?"

Everytime someone does something special, Miss. Abby has to have some negativity to back it up.

"I want to talk about this week's competition," Miss. Abby tells us as she turns around the chalkboard. I looked to see that Brooke was the new person on top.

"Do you see there's someone new on top?" Miss. Abby says, "Yes. Brooke, you are here because of your performance. You worked through an injury, you did what you had to do, you were a team player. You are getting a solo this weekend. All right, Chloe, Maddie, you are also getting solos this weekend."

Chloe and Maddie smiled at each other.

"The bottom row, what am I supposed to do with you four? You need to step it up. You need to get your butts back into class and start working on your technique. And you know what since we're in Pittsburgh this weekend, I'm gonna give every single one of you a solo."

We all clapped, this was exciting but what about me, do I get a solo? Was I ready for a solo?

I raised my hand.

"Yes, Monica?"

"Will I be getting a solo this weekend?" I asked.

"Are you ready?"

"Yes, Miss. Abby," I tell her with confidence.

"Ok then," Miss. Abby says, "For the first time in a couple of years, Monica will be doing a solo."

Everyone clapped as Paige hugged me.

"Moms, it's gonna be a busy week," Miss. Abby says, looking at the moms, "I expect them to be amazing. Do you understand? Yes? Sit up straight. Ladies, let's go."

After a couple of classes, Miss. Abby called me into my solo private.

"I am really proud that you want to do a solo again," Miss. Abby says, "Let's get to work."

The solo that I am doing this weekend is called, Reasons Why and it's a contemporary ballet piece.

"What are you doing, Monica," Miss. Abby barked, "Do that again."

I redid my assemble and I looked at Miss. Abby to see that she was nodding her head.

When I went through what I've learned of the dance then I went back into the Dan to be with the rest of the team.

"Hey," Chloe and Paige say.

"Are you guys excited for your solos," Brooke asked us.

"I'm nervous," Paige tells us, "It's my first solo."
