¦Chapter 2¦

"Hold it right there!" Sanemi scolded as you flinched, ceasing what you were doing immediately. "Don't overstuff them! They won't close properly if you do!"
"But isn't more better?" You laughed nervously. Your cooking skills weren't bad, Sanemi can attest to that, it's just that you've never made sweets before since you'd usually just ask Sanemi to bake you sweets.
"Not always," he said in a disapproving tone, taking the overstuffed ohagi from your hands. "Unless you want them to look like absolute shit."
"What? I don't want that!" You frowned. "I need them to look and taste good."
"Then make sure not to overstuff them," he said, placing the sealed ohagi into your palms. "This is how they're supposed to look."
"I underestimated your skills Sanemi," you began. There noticeable difference when you put Sanemi's ohagi next to the ones you made. "I never thought this could be so hard.
"You're overstuffing it again," he pointed out and indeed you were.
"Ehh? Not again!"
He watched your next few attempts painfully as you'd either overstuff or understuff them.
"You're hopeless." He sighed. Having had enough of your sad attempts, he reached over and placed his larger hands on yours, guiding you through the process and with his help, you actually managed to make your first okay ohagi.
"Thank you so much Nemi!" you beamed as you made an attempt to move your hands only to look down and realize his warm hands were still on top of yours. "But you know, I sort of need you to let go."
"Sorry," he mumbled, almost like he sounded embarrassed as he quickly pulled his hands away. "I just couldn't see you wasting anymore of my ingredients."
"Sorry, I'll compensate you for it."
"No need," he brushed off as he leaned against the counter, eyeing the products you made, a grin forming on his face. "Just don't come crying to me when the reason you were rejected was because of your unsightly ohagi's."
"I-I'll get better!" you stammered, your face flushing pink as you looked at your poorly made sweets. "Just you wait and see, I'll make you eat your words!"
"I look forward to it," he said in a mocking tone. "but let's be real, that'll never happen."
"Just you wait and see, I will get better!"

"Let's stop here for today," Sanemi said, taking a look at how late it's gotten, "We can pick where we left off tomorrow."
"Sounds good to me," you sighed, resting your head on the counter after washing your hands. "Maybe I don't have a knack for making sweets..."
"Who is this even for?" Sanemi finally asked as he sat opposite to you. "You're sure putting a lot of effort into it."
"It's someone you know very well," you grinned. "That's all I'm gonna tell you."
"Someone I know we'll, huh..." Sanemi pondered over it for a while. "A few guys come to mind."
"I can assure you it's someone you'll never expect," despite you saying you were only going to give him one hint, you have him another. Maybe for good measure or to confuse him, nobody knows but you.
"Tomioka?" he slowly asked as he wracked his brain.
"Nope." You stuck out your tongue, denying as you once again broke your 'only one hint' statement. "Like I said, you known him very well and it's someome you'll never expect."
"Whatever, I'll know soon enough." He shrugged, getting up as he picked up your bag. "Come on, let's go. I'll walk you home."
"You don't need t—"
"I won't take no for an answer," he said. "There are a bunch of creeps lately and I don't need the police or your parents calling to tell me you've been assaulted."
"Oh my, such a gentleman," you teased.
"Shut up and let's go."
"Yes sir, mister bodyguard."
Bidding goodbye to Genya, you and Sanemi started to walk to your house. Your house wasn't that far from his, maybe a 10 minute walk but it was a 10 minute walk Sanemi didn't want to risk.
"Hey, can you hold my hand?" you teased, an uncontainable grin on your face. You then reached your hand towards the one he wasn't using to hold your bag.
"Hah?" he remarked, staring at you and your outstretched hand like you were some sort of alien.
"Oh come on, don't be such a downer." You rolled your eyes playfully, "you're already escorting me home, what's the harm of hand holding? Just think of it as another precaution against the creeps."
He just continued to stare at your outstretched hand.
"Alright, jeez," you sighed, "just say no if you really don't want to."
You were about to pull your hand away when he took it in his, so now you were holding hands.
"Happy?" he grumbled, refusing to make eye contact with you.
"Very much so." You grinned, swinging your hands up and down as you hummed a tune since the neighborhood at night was always too silent for your liking.
Once you reached your house, Sanemi walked you to your door and handed you your bag, rolling his eyes as he asked in a mocking tone, "What should I do next your highness?"
"Well obviously you should kiss me on the forehead goodnight," you declared confidently before you shrugged, "but last time o suggested that you got mad and called me a crazy idiot—very different from how you usually call me an idiot mind you—so I'll unfortunately have to settle on a head pat." You sighed.
"You really are a crazy idiot for even asking me to do that." He sighed.
"I know—"
"So," he quickly grabbed your free hand, bringing it closer to him as he planted a kiss on the back of it. He then let go of your hand, letting it fall absently back to your side as he flashed you a grin. "I hope you this satisfies you, your highness."
Though his words were meant to mock you, your face flushed red as you registered what just happened. "Huh?"
"Well goodnight." He turned his head on you but before you did you could've sworn his face was red.
"Wait!" you called out. "What was that about?"
"Who knows?" Sanemi answered but he didn't once stop it turn back to look at you.
Confused and embarrassed, you watched his back slowly disappear as your free hand seemed warmer than usual.
