Hushed voices reached me from the abbots chambers laying on my patch of straw I heard the peal of the bell and I knew it must be 12 which was extremely late, I donned my habit and crept out of the room being careful not to disturb brother Dominic who slept fitfully I tiptoed down the freezing cold cloister feeling nothing I pressed my ear against the worn old oak door and heard a rich genteel voice! And heard don't bury her here she's bought Shame on the family bury her in deepest nature where bushes and trees mature down in the earth down in the peat where worms will eat and eat!
After hearing this I ran conscious i had heard far too much, i tripped over the well worn stone, and knocked over a vase on the shelf. A circle of light spilled out onto.the floor as the abbots door swang open, the oak dragging on the floor. I was still running my toe throbbing, up ahead was the chapel I ran but the abbot caught up with me his face like thunder, he beat me savagely with his staff and gave me pulsating bruises
