Chapter 5: “Ultimate Weakness”

“My turn,” Maddie cheered, jumping up out of her seat. She shuffled over towards the tree in her new kigurumi and new snapback and gathered the gifts she bought for SHINee. One by one she handed them their gifts and watched them open them. Onew’s gift was in a little envelope while the rest of his members got boxes that were wrapped.

“What did you get?” Stephanie curiously asked Onew, leaning her head towards his side to peek at his gift.

Onew sliced the envelope open and pulled out small coupons. He read the label out loud, “Free chicken whenever you want?”

Maddie smiled and assured him, “Yep, just give me a call and I’ll buy you chicken with the use of that coupon.”

Onew threw his fists up and with a huge smile, he cheered, “Yes! Thank you Maddie!”

Key, Minho, and Taemin said thanks as well as they opened their gifts. Minho got a pair of awesome sneakers. Taemin got a set of matching winter accessories, like a hat, a scarf, and mittens. Key got a pair of very flashy sunglasses since Maddie sat on his last pair a couple weeks ago.

Lastly, Jonghyun opened his gift to find DJ headphones. “Wow, awesome!” he cheered, ripping the box open and placing the headphones around his neck. He smiled over at Maddie and excitingly asked, “How do I look?”

Instantly, Maddie covered up her nose and bolted for the bathroom. Many of the others laughing, understanding how fragile she is against nosebleeds. As for Jonghyun though, he took it the wrong way. He sadly slid the headphones off and asked, “Do they really look that bad?”

Suddenly, Stephanie chucked her book from Minho at Jonghyun’s head. It hit him directly on target, silencing the laughter. Jonghyun cried out in pain and glared up at Stephanie to find her staring straight back at him with a bored expression.

“What the heck was that for?!” he shouted.

Stephanie remained unfazed and muttered, “Idiot…”

Kalyn just shook her head slightly with her head lowered and eyes closed. A small smile appeared on her lips as she softly said, “What a fool…”

“What?! Not you too,” Jonghyun yelled at Kalyn, disbelieving the fact that she was siding with Stephanie.

Kalyn just chuckled at Jonghyun’s rash reaction. “Not you. I was talking about Maddie. She basically just handed over her ultimate weakness to you.”

All the boys gazed at the two girls in confusion. Ultimate weakness? Was this just another girl thing they couldn’t understand? Kalyn just smiled at the boys and explained, “One of the most attractive things Maddie finds in men is DJ headphones around their neck. Now whenever you wear those, she’ll find it super hard to say no to anything you want.”

Jonghyun grew a sly smirk on his lips and placed the headphones back around his neck. He bolted towards the bathroom and away from everyone’s eyes. Kalyn just softly giggled at how quickly he picked that up.

“Yah, I can’t believe you just sold out Maddie,” Stephanie scolded Kalyn. That was only girl stuff. It wasn’t meant to be shared with boys, especially someone like Jonghyun. Now he was definitely going to torture their leader.

Kalyn just waved her off and said, “She’ll be okay.”

“So do all girls have this ‘ultimate weakness’ you speak of?” Taemin curiously asked.

“No, but it’s very rare not to have one,” Kalyn answered, still holding that calm factor.

Onew leaned over towards Stephanie, pointed towards her, and asked Kalyn, “So does she have one?”
