Chapter 2: “Sweaters, Fortunes, and A Missing Child”

Downstairs on the first floor, the three youngest just casually walked together, gazing around at all the stores and Christmas decorations. The jingle of the bells and hoots from the little trains really eased the atmosphere. Kalyn sighed from happiness, wishing this could just last forever. No shouts. No anger. No complaints…

Just her and her cuties being carefree and enjoying each other’s company…

“Oh! Lyn-ah~! It’s Santa!” Taemin cheered, tugging on her sweater sleeve and pointing to the big attraction in the middle of the mall.

“Oh my gosh! Let’s go get a picture with him!” she cheered back, geeking hardcore about how cute the picture would come out.

Sadly though, Minho didn’t join in the cheering of Santa. Instead he just smirked down at the two maknaes and assured them, “We can do it later when it’s less crowded.”

So they continued on along the lines of stores until Kalyn stopped in front of one. “Oh! I need to go this one,” she told the boys. Minho and Taemin gazed at the store and everything in it was Christmas related. From the hats to the socks, nothing in this store wasn’t decorated in green or red. Kalyn noticed their interest and immediately added, “You guys can’t come in though.”

“What? But why can’t—”

Minho placed his hand on Taemin’s shoulder and quickly silenced him. “Go ahead. We’ll look at some of the stores further down,” Minho assured her, knowing exactly why they couldn’t come with her.

“Okay, I’ll be quick,” she told them before disappearing into the sea of green and red.

“Hyung, why did you say that?” Taemin asked.

Minho just smiled down at his little maknae and answered, “She’s going to buy our gifts in there, silly.”

“Oh,” Taemin sang, feeling a bit slow for not seeing that. Minho just patted his dongsaeng on the shoulder and lead him towards another store just two down from Kalyn’s. The store was lit up like candyland and kids that only reached to about the boys’ knees were running all around.

Taemin instantly saw something that caught his eye and left his hyung’s side. Right there, next to the columns full of various colors of jelly beans was an arrangement of lollipops. This screamed out Stephanie’s name and Taemin couldn’t help but snatch one up before they ran out. Stephanie absolutely loved lollipops, so this was perfect. On the other side of the store, Minho saw a pure purple teddy bear with a white bow next to its ear and instantly thought about Kalyn. Picking up the bear, Minho searched for his dongsaeng and chuckled as Taemin fought with a little boy about whether girls liked lollipops or flowers more.

“I’m telling you, girls love flowers,” the little boy rudely argued holding his on purchase of flowers. The boy’s eyes landed on the lollipop arrangement in Taemin’s hands and sneered, “Your girl is going to hate you and leave you if you buy her that.”

Taemin was just absolutely baffled by this little boy’s logic. What did he know about girls?! Huh? The boy was probably about seven or eight years old! Taemin was ready to argue back when he felt a familiar hand hold his shoulder.

“Ok kid, I think it’s time you go find your mommy,” Minho said, trying to make it sound polite as he could. The little boy just held his nose up high and walked away from the two SHINee members.

“Jeez, what a brat,” Taemin grumbled, adjusting the huge lollipop arrangement in his hands.

“Don’t worry about it,” Minho assured his dongsaeng, “He’s just a kid. Come on, let’s go buy these before Kalyn comes in here.”
