Chapter 6: “A Not So Peaceful Family”

Key stood up and retrieved his gifts from the tree. He handed a small box to Kalyn and a normal size box to Maddie. He turned to Stephanie and smirked at her, having a plan up his sleeve. “I have a gift for you, but you have to say something in order to get it,” he told her.

Her reaction though was not the one he was looking for. Stubbornly, she looked away from him and remained silent. He could’ve sworn that she was going to crack. He knew she loved Christmas presents. Her child side just couldn’t resist them. So how could she just look away and not care?

Kalyn opened her gift and awed at the extremely cute hair bows. All of them were drastically different. Some even appeared to be one of a kind. Did Key design these? She searched the brand label and found nothing. Then they had to be Key’s designs. He handmade these…just for her…

“Oppa! Saranghae!” she cooed, but immediately stopped when she noticed the frown on his face. She gazed over at Stephanie and noticed how they were both glaring at each other once again. Kalyn sighed and complained, “Stephanie, just say something. You’re ruining the mood.”

Stephanie stuck her tongue out at Kalyn and went straight back to glaring at Key. If their eyes were lasers right now, they would be caught in a stalemate. Both Key and Stephanie were stubborn people. They were actually a lot alike in personalities, so that was probably why they didn’t get along so well.

Maddie just shook her head at the two and said to Kalyn, “Just ignore them. Neither is willing to listen to reason.”

Jonghyun grumbled beside her, “Those idiots…”

Instantly, Key and Stephanie shot their lasers over towards Jonghyun, causing everyone else to crack up at Jonghyun’s face. He looked like he was about to pee his pants. Shamelessly, he grabbed Maddie’s shoulders and pulled her in front of him to avoid the lasers.

“Yah! Don’t use me a shield!” Maddie barked.

“As entertaining as this is, we need to hurry up,” Onew stated, taking the role as the eldest, “I’m starving.”

“Oh right, the food will be ice cold at the rate we’re going,” Stephanie commented, standing up from her seat. She headed over towards the tree and grabbed the bag she prepared for them just earlier today. She handed Onew his and waited because she didn’t want to miss the reactions from them. He opened the envelope and cracked up to find that they were just more chicken coupons.

“Hey! Gift copier!” Maddie accusingly yapped. Stephanie just laughed at her teasing and handed Jonghyun his gift. When he opened it, she only laughed more at his expression.

“Are you mocking me?!” he shouted at her.

“What are they?” Kalyn asked.

Since Jonghyun was too busy shouting at Stephanie, Maddie glanced over and saw the pair of sole inserts. Instantly, she burst out laughing, announcing his gift to everyone. Oh man, that was definitely a funny gift.

Kalyn tried not to laugh and gasped at Stephanie. “That’s so mean.”

“It’s a joke,” Stephanie playfully scoffed, still entertained by Jonghyun’s continuous rant that no one was listening to. She walked over to Minho and handed him his gift.

“I don’t know if I want to open this,” he commented, growing suspicious of Stephanie’s gift. Since everyone’s eyes were on him though, he sighed and opened the gift. Confusion struck him hard as he stared down at the plain white t-shirt in his lap.
