CHAPTER ONE
A Divine Gift
Where was I? Oh yeah it's my 17th birthday. The day my life changed forever but before that I took a shower, grabbed my favorite hoodie which was navy blue, my favorite color, a lighter colored jeans and my white converse. And as I left my room I could smell the warm and inviting breakfast waiting for me downstairs so I hurried down and my older sister was standing there waiting for me.
"Morning sleepy head. Happy 17th Birthday!" She offered a hug and normally I'm not a hug type of person but it was a special occasion so I opened my arms and she came running towards me.
"Come on, that's enough Cass." I call her Cass short for Cassandra and she withdraws from the hug with a frown on her face. "Didn't you have enough?" She shakes her head no while walking over to her chair. "Well, maybe if it was your birthday I could hug you more but it's mine and I say it's enough."
She looked up to me with a devilish grin on her face. "That's a promise, okay? Now go eat before your food gets cold." She prepared my favorite, bacon cooked very crispy, two sunny side eggs and some strawberries on the side.
"Where's mom and dad?" I said as I grabbed a strip of bacon.
"I'm sorry J but I don't think they'll be home today." I wasn't surprised but I still hoped they would be here for my birthday but I already expected this so I guess it's fine. "But... you're older and your favorite sister is here until-"
Cass looks over to the wall clock and it is quarter to 8. "It's fine, I'm 17 now so I'm practically an adult which means I'll be fine by myself." I know she's also busy with her work and I really appreciate her cooking breakfast but I understand she has other responsibilities. "And correction, you're my only sister so I didn't really have a chance to pick favorites."
"Not yet, just one more year and don't even deny it cause I know I'll always be your favorite. And do call me if you need anything, okay?" She stood up, walked over to me and tried to kiss me on the cheek but thankfully I have cat-like reflexes.
"Hey, what are you doing? I'm not a child anymore and go! You're gonna be late again."
Cass takes a look at the clock again then she grabs her bag on her chair. "What are you talking about? I'm never late but since you insist I'm gonna go. I'll see you later!" She hurries out the door. "Happy Birthday again!" She says those words as she closes the door.
I couldn't help but let out a sigh after all it was another birthday all by myself but before I get depressed about being lonely I should finish this delicious breakfast.
After eating what heaven tastes like I thought about going outside. I mean I'm already dressed for it and now that I think about it why did I take a shower so early in the morning? Well, it's my birthday so why not. And that's exactly what I did. I walked out that front door like a man going on a journey. What a fun birthday, am I right?
I mean you're thinking that I should've called up some friends to hangout, maybe watch a movie or something and I hate to sound like a loner but I don't really have friends so that's out of the picture. I guess I never felt like forming a connection since my family travelled a lot because of my parents work and I never really complained so why start now. I think I'm perfectly fine by myself.
I was so deep into my own thoughts that I didn't realize I was about to cross a red light if it weren't for her. She grabbed my arm pulling me to the sidewalk and I didn't even know what just happened.
"Uh... what happened?" I was looking around really confused when I noticed the annoyed look on her face.
"You almost just died so a thank you would be nice." If it weren't for her really passive aggressive tone I'd think she's pretty I mean she is. Even with her current facial expressions I can still see a glimmer in those beautiful brown eyes. "Ew! Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Sorry, I didn't realize I was staring.". It seemed like she didn't really care. If anything it felt like she was annoyed at something else, not me, she was even fidgeting. "Hey, are you okay?"
She looked at me and rolled her eyes and just in time the pedestrian light turned green and she walked away really fast like she was in a hurry. I didn't even catch her name but it's not like it matters. I'm sure we're gonna move soon. So I thought about something else and instead of crossing the street I decided to walk straight, well I tried to but after a few steps all I saw was darkness.
"Jacob..." It was that voice again. Did I just faint? But why am I having the same dream? Before I could think one more thought a figure formed in front of me. It was a woman but I couldn't see her face, all I could see was her long silver hair floating and her mismatched eyes. One was white and the other black.
Without realizing she was getting closer to me and she whispered something in my ear. I couldn't quite understand what she was saying. She was speaking so softly like she was afraid someone else would hear it. All I could understand was this, "Divine Genesis" but I had no idea what it meant so like I did earlier I tried to ask her.
I gathered all my strength to open my mouth but before the words could come out she replied. It was as if she was inside my head listening to my every thought. "You will know soon enough and... you must learn to control it..."
Then the second I knew I was already awake on the same sidewalk I fainted on. There were several people surrounding me but I assured them that I was okay so one by one they left. However, I noticed someone across the street. They were staring at me but they were wearing a hoodie so I couldn't see them and when they noticed I was looking they quickly left.
I could still feel my head ringing. Maybe it was from hitting the concrete but I felt fine. If anything I'm just very confused. You know what I think I was just hallucinating from me hitting the cement. I think it would be best if I just head home and take a quick nap.
And that's exactly what I did. I turned back to where I came from and a few minutes later I was at the front door of our house and I was about to enter but I felt like someone was staring at me so I looked behind me. The street was empty, only cars passing by so I took a deep breath, walked in and made sure to lock the door behind me. I must have been really tired because I couldn't even bring myself to walk upstairs. Instead, I collapsed on the couch.
