I, Jack Barakat, am a simple man. I wake up every morning, grab a cup of coffee from my new favorite coffee shop, go to work, and come home to eat an unhealthy meal before bed. See, very simple. The only seemingly interesting thing about my daily routine is that I am shamelessly in love with the owner of the coffee shop. Ever since Alex Gaskarth moved into town and opened that shop down the street, He's been a light in a seemingly dark tunnel.

"Morning Jack, The usual?" He asks as I walk in with a small smirk on his face. He thinks I'm just that simple regular but I can assure you I'm not.

"Yes. But do you have those pop-tarts yet?" I ask with a hint of a whine in my voice. I've been begging him to get pop tarts in the shop for months but I guess he's just not as cool of a guy as I thought.

"No, I told you you'll have to go over to Jim's store if you want them so bad." He seems to have that thought set in stone but I have a way of wearing people down.

"But his place is across the street. I could just have my coffee and pop tarts all in one place." I give him a playful smile as he has a look of thought on his face.

"Ok, if I were to get pop tarts here, what flavors should I get?" I think for a moment stunned. He's never gone this far with my hypothetical pop-tart scenario.

"Oh, um, definitely chocolate, you know, for the cool kids. Um, the brown cinnamon sugar for the lesser but still cool people. And why not throw in some of the fruity flavors for the weirdos that like to be 'healthy' in the morning." He contemplates my answer for a second before responding.

"Interesting, but the answer is still no." He smiles at me as I give in to defeat.

"Alright, I'll go over to Jim's after I get my coffee." Alex starts to make my coffee as I exaggerate a pouting face the whole time.

"Here you go, a small smoked vanilla cold brew with sweet foam." He hands me the coffee with an exaggerated smile. He's so dang cute.

"Ok, be prepared to deal with me tomorrow, also I love this song by the way." I point to the speakers in the ceiling before I make my usual dramatic exit. I see Alex write something down on a notepad through the window as I head off to work, walking past Jim's convenience store.

I walk into work and notice right away that everyone is staring at me. I try not to think too much of it as I sit at my desk and get ready for the day of work ahead of me.

"Jack?" I look behind me to my left and see my good work friend Zack standing there with my other friend Rian right behind him.

"Yeah, what's up guys? Why's everyone looking at me?" They look at each other and then back at me.

"What is it? Tell me?" They look at each other again before Rian starts to explain.

"Um, we've just been hearing rumors that Mr. Bennit is thinking of firing you and I just thought they were rumors until Zack said he wants to see you in his office." They both look around until finally settling their eyes on the floor.

"He wants to see me in his office?" They both nod and it feels like a weight hit me. I'm not the best employee and don't have the best on-time record here but I've always done my job and I've always done it right.

"Ok," is all I can muster up to say as I get out of my chair and head over to Mr. Bennits office. I knock before he tells me to enter and I sit in one of the oversized chairs in front of his desk.

"Goodmorning Jack, I'm sure you're wondering why I asked you in here?" I nod, too afraid to speak.

"Well, unfortunately, the board and I have decided to let you go. We just have too many people in that department and as of late you've been late more than usual and you seem so distracted. It also doesn't help that your sales have plummeted too. I'm sorry to see you go." I take a moment to let what he said sink in, today had started great and now it feels like a storm cloud is approaching. I could go one of two ways with this, I could lash out and start cussing him out for being such an asshole for the last five years, or I can be civil about it and just wait to cry at home later. I chose the latter.
