Second Day: Sundown

Sasuke

After the little quarrel with Gaara and his group I thought maybe they'd leave me alone and my day would go back to normal, boy was I wrong. First Naruto almost ate all my pizza, then we had gym in which we had to do forty pull ups along with sixty push ups with Guy sensei standing over us yelling about "THIS IS THE WAY TO YOUTH!!!!"

"More like the way to die..." Ino grunted while trying to finish her tenth push up. Lee was doing over the required amount of pull ups and Naruto laid collapsed beside me. "Hn. Loser you tired yourself out. Now your useless." I grunted. Finishing up the push ups, "Gee you make it look easy." Ino gasped. She smiled and wiped the sweat from her brow. After what felt like an eternity the bell finally rang, "Hey Sasuke don't forget your pet!" Ino jokingly said as she pointed to a passed out Naruto. Giving a sigh I helped him stand then went to our next class. The rest of the day went by fast, on the way to my car I bumped into that Sai guy in the halls. He gave me a smirk, "So your Sakuras new boyfriend? Wonder what she sees in you?" he said. I started to reply when someone's hands wrapped around my arm; turning Sakura stood glaring at the dark haired boy.

"No we aren't dating Sai. Sasuke is my friend and id like it a lot if you'd leave him alone." she sternly said. I hadn't seen this look in her eyes before, of course I had only know her for a few days, but for some reason I felt this connection with her that id never felt with anyone before. His smirk turned into a large sinister smile, "And how have you been my little blossom?" he then reached toward her in which I found myself move before I could even think of what had happened I had a strong grip on his wrist. Sakura looked up at me, Sai glared at me which I was happy to return. "Don't touch her." I growled. "You going to stop me!?" he growled. We were nose to nose now, his dark eyes met my own. "Sai! Come on please lets go home!?" Temari yelled from the door of the school, "Hmph you got luck today Uchiha." he grunted then his gaze lowered to Sakura, "Ill see you around honey." her grip tightened just slightly as I glared at the retreating man's form. "Sasuke-kun would you drive me home?" she asked without looking at me, "Yeah." I replied.

We rode in silence until I couldn't take it anymore, "I'm sorry about everything today." I said my gaze never leaving the road, out of the corner of my eye I saw her turn toward me. "You have nothing to be afraid of Sasuke." she replied.

"Hn, I acted like a jealous over protective freak today. Your not even mine but when Sai went to touch you I started to get mad and I'm not sure why." she touched my arm, "Sasuke. Its ok I'm glad you didn't let him touch me, he was never the gentle type." She sadly stated. After that the silence crept back into the air, glancing over at her I could see the sadness clearly in her eyes. "Sasuke...have you ever gotten this feeling like you've known someone for a long time even when you've only really known them for a few days?" she asked randomly.

"Yes. And you fell a strong attraction toward them?" I asked, she nodded.

"Yeah I know exactly how you feel." I said. "Do you like me?" she blurted.

I stopped the car and looked out the window at Sakuras house, "I..." what should I tell her, should I tell her that I do and compromise our friendship or deny any affection toward her and hurt her feelings. Looking over at her I smiled at the pure emotions in her beautiful emerald eyes, "Hn." I replied.

"Is that a yes or no?" she questioned while raising an eyebrow. I answered with a nod that made her smile, "Thanks for the ride Sasuke." she said opening the door and started to get out. "Hold on. Do you like me?" I asked, she turned and winked, "For me to know, you to find out. Bye." and with that she was gone.

Pulling up in the drive way I noticed that Itachi's car was gone, must have went to a party with a group of his friends. Opening the door I entered the dark living room, the muffled sound of crying had me stopped in my tracks. Flipping on the light I saw my mom sitting on the couch with her face in her hands crying, rushing to her side I quickly embraced her. "Mom...what's wrong? What's happened?" I asked. She continued to cry but leaned into my embrace. My thoughts automatically went to Itachi, maybe he was in a car wreck. "Was it Itachi? Is he ok?" I questioned, she nodded. "Mom look at me." I said lightly pulling her hands away from her face. Once I saw her face my anger boiled over. There was a huge fist sized bruise on her right cheek and a large hand print on her left, even her nose was bleeding and her eyes were red and puffy from crying. "Who the hell did this to you!?" I growled, my hands balled into fist. She started to speak when my dad yelled from upstairs, "Is that the smart ass!?" my eyes widened and I stood, she gripped my shirt but I shook her off and walked to the bottom of the stairs, "Get your ass down here now! Or ill come up there and throw it down these stairs!" I yelled. A few minutes later my father stood glaring down at me from the top of the stairs, "I'm going a little def. Mind saying that again?" he asked. "You heard me asshole!!" I growled. Slowly he took step after step down the stairs until he stood in front of me, "Your a stupid boy you know that?" he questioned in his gruff voice. "You ever touch her again and ill make sure you won't ever be able to stand again." I growled, he laughed then looked at my mother, "Hope your ready to lose a son." he calmly stated.

"We had a deal. I take all your fucking punishments for her and you leave her alone!" I said.

"Then you should have been here." He replied. What happened next surprised me, he moved with greater speed then I knew he possessed and threw me into a wall, before I could recover he stood over me and began to swing hitting me in the face multiple times, blocking one hit I grabbed him by the throat and squeezed as hard as I could hoping to kill the bastard but my mother screamed and ripped my arm from his throat, he fell silently to the floor. I hadn't killed him but he was knocked out, without another word I turned and left.

It was now dark outside but I had to get out of here, I couldn't call Karin or Suigetsu because I left my phone inside and I doubted Naruto or anyone else would understand. Then my thoughts drifted to Sakura, I could trust her. Starting up my car I backed up and drove toward her house my ears still ringing with rage.

Sakura

I tried to walk away as coolly as possible which was hard since Sasuke told me that he liked me. 'But you don't know how he likes you yet. It could just be as a friend.' my inner so bluntly stated. After throwing down my bag, taking a shower then helping my mom with dinner I sat on my bed reading, there is nothing like getting lost in a good book. "Honey! Sasuke is outside. He's asked to talk to you!?" my mothers voice rang from the living room. My heart began to beat rapidly, I hurriedly threw on my shoes and a jacket. I practically jumped down the stairs then ninjad my way to the front door. Throwing it open I smiled, "Couldn't stay away huh?" I asked. He took a step back, "Sakura...can we just talk?" he asked, I instantly noticed something was wrong by the tone of his voice and the fact he was shaking. That's when I noticed his shirt was wet, touching his damp chest I frowned. "Sasuke what's wrong?" I asked. He looked up at me and his beaten bloody face made me want to cry. "Who did this to you?" I asked.

"My dad..." he replied. My instincts took over, I wrapped him in a tight hug not caring if any of his blood got on me. "It will be ok." I said holding him close, he was tense at first but then he wrapped his arms around me. His body began to shudder, it broke my heart to know Sasuke was crying, he probably hated for me to see him like this, "I'm here for you." I whispered as we stood there under the bright moon.
