It was my first day back at the BAU office in 2 years. I hadn't come back after the whole 'unsub is gonna kill my family' thing.
Let me evaluate
Last time I was at the BAU, we were working a case with an unsub named Lucie Jolene. She was tall, bright green eyes, red scruffy hair. She was absolutely terrifying. She would kill a man every year on her birthday. She kept that tradition going for 22 years. It all started when her father abandoned her and her mother when she was only 5 years old on her 5th birthday. Her mother couldn't take being a single parent anymore and put Lucie up for adoption. She remembered it all. She took that hatred for her father into her twenties. She started killing men who looked like her father.
I was on the case that year. She was easy to catch, she made it easy. I was the one who brought her in. When we were questioning her, she told me that I would remember her forever. And I did. She soon broke out of prison. No one knew where she went, but she constantly taunted my team. She eventually slipped up, but the thing that lead us to her was the note I found one day in my car. "How's your father, Agent May? He seems upset. Maybe you should give him a call". I knew it was her. I knew where she was. She was in my hometown and she was stalking my father. A few days later, I got a call from the local doctor saying my father was in critical condition and I needed to see him as soon as possible. They never found her.
He passed away right in front of me.
That's when I decided to take my break from the BAU.
Something just didn't feel right when I left though. I didn't feel like I was doing what I dreamed of doing when I was growing up. I always wanted to be a super hero, and this was the closest I could get. I saved peoples' lives and helped put away the bad guys.
I was a hero.
---
It was 6:30 a.m. and my alarm was going off.
"I really need to change that fucking ring tone, my god."
I groaned as I grabbed my phone but soon realized what today was.
Today was the day I get to be a super hero again.
I quickly got up and scavenged my closet for clothes that I could wear on my first day back. This is the outfit that really mattered. I eventually found a brown knit sweater, a white turtleneck, and some mom jeans. I quickly did my makeup in the bathroom, went back to my bedroom, got changed, grabbed my messenger bag off my computer chair, and made my way into the kitchen. I put my bag down as I opened the fridge to find something to jumpstart my day. I didn't have to be at the office until 8 a.m but it's never too early to get ready. I eventually just closed the fridge and decided today was the day to stop at a coffee shop. I've always wanted to do that and have a cute little date there but in my 25 years of life, have never been on a true date. Sad.
I grabbed all my necessities and made my way out of my apartment door. I loved my apartment, it was so cozy and homey. It was full of little plants. They keep me happy, plus fresh air right? It was definitely cozy. Only one bedroom, one tiny bathroom, a plant-packed living room, and a useless kitchen. I always ordered take-out. It may not be the healthiest option, but I always felt too lazy to pick up some pots and pans and cook.
I walked into the elevator of my building, greeting my next door neighbor, Paul. He was the sweetest old man. He always wore button downs and khakis. I soon made it to the parking garage and unlocked my 2005 gray Honda Civic. I forgot how much I hated that car. I bought it from some guy on Craigslist and it smelt musty inside. I scrunched my nose and sighed as I got in and set my bag down beside me in the stained passenger seat. I started up the car and turned the heat on. It was super cold outside, due to the winter months. It was only a few weeks until Christmas and I was super excited. I couldn't wait, Christmas is my favorite time of the year.
I made it to the office and pulled into the parking lot, completely forgetting about my morning coffee, I didn't even like coffee what was I thinking. As I parked, all the memories started rushing back to me, causing me to sit and stare at the building like a crazy person for 5 minutes.
I opened the doors and greeted the familiar faces at the front desk and made my way to the elevator, pressing the 6th floor button. When the door opened and I walked through those two glass doors, I was greeted by my best friends.
"You're back!" I heard a familiar voice yell from behind a stack of books on his desk.
Spencer Reid. My best friend. He basically became my sibling. We told each other everything, and when I say everything, I mean everything. Sometimes it got a little weird.
"Pretty girl, you're back! No way!" I hear as Derek Morgan approaches me, engulfing me in a tight hug followed by ruffling my hair. "You know how long I worked on my hair to get it to look this good?" I say, giving him a big grin. We both knew that was a lie.
"No way, is that-" "Oh my god it is! May, you're back!" I hear from behind me as JJ and Emily approach. I turned around and gave them a big smile as I run over to them and hug them.
"Hey, hot chocolate- Oh my god! You're back!" Penelope says after looking up from the stack of papers she's carrying. She drops them on Derek's desk and runs over to give me a big hug. I missed her hugs, she always smelt like flowers. Not the cheap perfume kind, but ones that genuinely smelled amazing. Her hugs were so comforting.
"Hey! No way! Welcome back!" I hear from a very familiar Italian man. I hug him as he approaches too.
"Wow, I really didn't expect all this from you guys! I missed you guys so much you have no Idea." I say as I look around at all my friends in front of me. We were only missing one person.
"Agent May" a familiar voice says from his office.
I looked around at my friends, giving them a sheepish smile before I look up and see agent Hotchner standing at his office door.
I let out a small breath and start walking towards his office. I ruffle Spence's hair as I walk past, ah old traditions.
Now in Hotch's office, listening to him explaining what paperwork I needed to do. His office always smelled like coffee. It was kinda nice.
He always kept eye contact. No matter what. He was explaining the paperwork I needed to do, but my eyes drifted off somewhere else, so did my mind. I looked down to examine the papers he was talking about, but his hands.
They were so big.
"Agent May? Do you understand?"
I break out of my daze as I slightly blush, giving him a small nod.
He stared at me for a good 30 seconds, saying nothing. I was trying to examine the papers in front of me, acting like it anyways, but I could feel his gaze burning into me. He was profiling me. It's like you can hear the little gears moving in his head. We always made it a rule to never profile each other, but it seemed as if it wasn't in place anymore. I quickly got up and thanked him for helping me get situated again and hurried to my old desk, right in front of Spencer's. Maybe that's why we got so close. I always used to mess with him by telling him this wasn't a library, but he took it lightly. We both did. I even borrowed a few books from him a few times. I pulled a few items out of a brown box that was sitting on my desk and reorganized my old desk again. I pulled out a few bobble heads that Garcia had kindly donated and a few fake plants.
I was back where I belong.
