Gotham City was filled to the brim with cold streets and heavy traffic. The population of course was no different. Glares were a common from people you didn't know as well at people you may have passed before, but seeing the same person on the streets twice wasn't likely, caused by the size of Gotham as well as the large population that seemed to consist of different individuals every day.
People were always moving in and out of the city. Now, your apartment building may be flooded with inhabitants but next week you may find that you're the only one on your floor. The neighbors you once had may have left Gotham City altogether, they may have gotten kicked out for the inability to pay rent, or they may have tragically died or disappeared due to the abundance of crime the metropolis held.
Those were all common occurrences in Gotham.
Either way, the city still managed to function. Batman and the other unanimous vigilantes that lurked throughout Gotham kept it from its demise, which was caused by the well known super villains that were always at the center of Gotham's most troublesome times (those were quite often) and often could be more popular than the ones who stopped them.
Batman. An interesting specimen that lurked around in the darkness and had strange morals. No killing, Huh? That just didn't sit right with Y/n. She understood where he was coming from, it was quite a magnanimous thing for the Dark Knight to do considering his current occupancy as a dangerous being. She understood that not all criminals were deserving of death, not all henchmen willingly work for "The big Guy". All that set aside, killing would be necessary in certain situations regarding her current pastime. Not all illegal drug traders would voluntarily empty their pockets and relocate their business sights, either.
If you really think about it, nobody in Gotham would give a stranger money and listen to whatever they say just because.
Unless that stranger happened to be Bruce Wayne. Then maybe some dumb people would.
But being a crime lord (She had debated whether to call herself one, but if Superman could be cocky and call himself "Man of Steel" then she could surely call herself a crime lord) called for drastic measures that the 22-year-old was not hesitant to commit. Homicide was just a small part of her self-employed job.
She did what she had to do, otherwise her life would easily be ripped away from her grasp. If she wasn't harsh she wouldn't get what she wanted, she wouldn't be able to achieve what she was currently achieving.
Control over Gotham's drug trade.
She manipulated them, buying their loyalty with threats and dead comrades. She protected them, from the GCPD and Black Mask's disgusting business that made her sick just by the mention of it.
Sigh. Black Mask. Gotham's top dog. The ultimate mob boss. The goddamn prick she wanted dead.
Christ, she wanted to snap his neck, break his perfect system of crime and illegal trades, his adorable little mafia-thing he had going. It bothered her to no end, giving her unwanted insomnia each night. He was always a dull throb in the back of her head.
Black Mask wasn't the only guy giving her a headache everywhere she went. Red Hood was the cause of every one of her migraines, the consistent thorn piercing her side. Everywhere she went, every gang she controlled, every villain she came across, they all compared her to him.
Maybe it was their similar objectives.
Maybe it was their similar decisions.
Maybe it was their similar fashion choice.
Maybe it was their similar interrogation methods.
It could've been any of those things, it could be all of them. Y/n didn't care. She hated him, more than she hated Black Mask. She hated being compared to him, being asked if she was his protege just because they had similar morals. No way in hell was she Red Hood's apprentice. No way in hell would she ever work with him.
